Signed my first client!

Hi Guys,

Well some incredibly good news, 2 weeks ago I started working on my own Digital Marketing Agency, Instead of using the mass cold calling method for leads, I decided to observe a lot of local businesses. I dissected their digital footprints, picking apart their faults, and brain-storming how I could add value to their business'. I created a couple of power-points, prepared some notes and I approached them in person!

And

It worked! One has already agreed to a contract and the other is on the cusp!

But now let me ask my fellow Warriors;
  1. Whats the best way to approach Social media account creation and handling?
  2. Do I own the accounts until services end? and would I need to state this in the contract?
  3. Any quick tips for building a portfolio?

    That is very good news, you worked hard and you got result. Simple and easy ( well, not easy as it required hard work ). But the way you did was a simple method but needs effort, right?

    Lets go to your questions......

    It is always better, if your clients get you their emails address ans phone to create social media account. It is also true as per social media websites's guideline. Also this way, you will not need to maintain or create separate email for your clients. I mean you life will be much more simple if you get help from your client to create their social media accounts. My experience says, people respond with a good email for asking for those information. Once they hire you, that means they trust you. It is all about trust when you hire a web designer or online marketer. And people knows that. So why not just ask them for hat. Another thing, people can ask for refund at any time after the project is finished. So forcing them to pay you will not do any good by holding the social media account by you. So be fair from the first steps. People will definite will love your approach. Instead tell, them that you can create those social media accounts but they will face identity issue as those belongs to you so they need to help you to get their branding to them. Believe me, it works and they become more loyal to you.


    Building portfolio takes time unless you make some fake things. But those fake thins will not do much good. So wait and once you finish a project get testimonials for them showcase that on your site. Honestly there is no shortcut.

    1. They create it (or you create it in their name) and give you management control. (You can post, delete posts, but can't delete account, change account type, etc.)

    2. See 1.

    3. A portfolio is a bunch of things, so create a bunch of things. You have a friend who can't pay you but could use you? Do it, and add it to your portfolio. You get a client and you've finished the job, add it to the portfolio. Do you need one of your services/products? Sell/give it to yourself. Add it to your portfolio.

      Good answers, so I won't waste space repeating them myself.

      But I will add that before you add a client's finished project to your portfolio, get permission. Especially with something like social media.

      What happens when your client's customer contacts them and mentions digging their posts until they learned it wasn't the client making them, but a hired gun? If they've given permission ahead of time (and I've yet to be refused), they can prepare an answer.

      Also, if you get any kind of proprietary information, keep it to yourself.
