Anyhow, you have not really said what kind of research in Google you want to do, so kind of hard to recommend anything.

Since Google stop supplying that data for "free" my husband and I tend to rely more on Paid Traffic tools for the data we need when performing keyword research such as SpyFu and SEM Rush. There are free or "Lite" versions of other paid tools like Keyword.io I believe that you can use to get some data but not as good as if you go with full paid versions of tools out there.

At the end of the day the tools are only as good as the individual using them so get to know the tools by signing up for free trials and checking out video tutorials on how to use them to hopefully become more familiar with them and be able to leverage them better.

I used a software program on this forum a few years back. I remember it now. It was called "Article Ideas". What it did was when you put in a subject or keyword phrase it collected all sorts of data based around it very quickly.

I am still not sure if this are what you are looking for but VCB, Viral content Bee formerly viral content buzz or Drum Up. You write a keyword and they will show you a list of articles related to your keyword.

But how about Google.com? Isn't it enough?

Not sure what software you are talking about, but a powerful free tool is Google Keyword Planner, you can find out what people are looking for and target around that.

I am curious about what this software is supposed to do. Can you please explain how this tool "could be used more conveniently than Google".

I am very interested in the details. I do software engineering, so learning more about this tool could really help me. I am looking for new projects to work on and this sounds interesting and not so difficult to develop.

Jay the basic version does reverse engineering on backlinks and citations from any website via the url and 1 line of text in the description
There is a Platinium version that does so much more the the basic version does. Like press releases, guest post, etc...

  The software pulls in backlinks of top ranking site so you have them to reverse engineer. Does the same with citations. That is the basic version ad I stated earlier there is a Platinium version that has Guest port section, Press release section and alot more etc...

I have a mathematical equation that can help you, as long as you have both pieces of the puzzle. Here it is.

Brain + Google.com = Research tool.

I have seen other software in the past and tried it but IMO this formula can't really be beaten by anything else.

I understand this is meant in a lighthearted way, but I'm not talking about just using Google. There was a tool here a while ago that aggregated all of this for you and presented it to you in a neat clean fashion. This is the type of software tool I was interested in learning if there was something even better now.

You might be talking about "Article Insights" (articleinsights.com). I had a look at it awhile ago, and it seems to be what you are looking for. You might also check the WSO section.
