Teleseminar vs. Webinar - Which Do You Prefer?

For training content where you do not need to see how to do something such as where to click on a computer screen or how to do an exercise, do you prefer participating via teleseminar or webinar or it makes zero difference to you?

The differences:

A teleseminar is where you listen only - there are no pictures to see or slides or anything like that. You can listen while driving, exercising, etc. without missing anything. You don't need to use a computer but can use your phone to connect.

Webinars would have the same audio content as a teleseminar but normally also has slides you watch during the presentation. You can't participate in this without looking at the screen to see the slides so listening while driving, running, etc. is out.

Depending on the setup you could participate in either live or recorded and you could ask questions if the presenter allowed them. Either may also have a summary or outline to look at before or after the training.

Your thoughts?

    Outside of the corporate world (left at the end of 2012) I have never been on a teleseminar.

    If someone like me is your target market, then that might matter to you. If not, then you'd be best to ask the target market. Are they here on this forum?

    I would say that the webinars are very powerful..let's not underestimate the power of the images and videos..

    I haven't seen anyone offer a teleseminar in many years.

    With all the webinar options that exist, I can't imagine anyone doing anymore.

    Being able to present video and audio is just so much stronger than audio alone.

    My preference would be webinar over teleseminar.

    Both teleseminars and webinars present their own issues, but I think teleseminars are especially troublesome these days.

    Aside from the fact that you can listen to them over and over if you need to, they are akin to a lecture from a monotone professor . . . BORING!

    Unless you can find a way to make them snooze-proof, they tend to be like a boring novel ... easy to turn your intention away to anything else ... and hard to come back to if you were bored the first time!

    Webinars are not much different except that the extra bonus of seeing something on the screen helps to keep the viewers attention.

    With either one, I believe that it's critical to make the presentation interesting, on point, valuable, and something that must be experienced because the content can't be missed. That's a tall order these days.

    Good luck with whatever you decide.

    None of you listens to podcasts or audiobooks? It's basically the same format as a teleseminar.

    I am not fishing for any particular answer. I'm just curious but the answers may guide a decision I'm in the process of making.

    Personally I prefer Webinar's because of the Video. The live ones are the best. I find with podcast it is easy to tune out. Have listend to a few audio books in the car on the way to work.

    What works today are podcasts (audio) for lead gen and ongoing engagement and then webinars as part of sales funnel to conversion - turning leads into customers by sharing lesson, case studies, etc...

    Teleseminars are really no longer done...still could do coaching calls, q&a calls, etc... as part of a funnel though.

    I'm an old-schooler. I still prefer teleseminars. Gives me the feeling that i can connect to the person on the other end, and immediately ask questions and get answers from the person about specific things that i didn't understand - or that went over my head.

    I'm answering this as a consumer, not as a marketer.

    I prefer recordings of either to the live version.

    For teleseminars, a simple mp3 that I can listen to while doing things that don't require my full attention, that I can start/stop at will, etc.

    For webinars, a simple replay is cool, but even better is an audio feed along with a pdf of the slides used.

    The underlying theme here is control. I don't want to sit down for an hour worth of "training" and end up with the usual mix of the presenter spending 20 minutes patting themselves on the back, 5-10 minutes of actual content, and the remainder a combo of sales pitch and scripted "questions and answers" designed to address objections. At least with a recording, I can skip ahead or just delete the whole thing if it looks like a waste of time.

    If you want them to convert, I personally prefer webinars and the reason is quite simple. If you are good at copywriting, with a webinar you can prepare your presentation's structure so that you can:
    • Bond with your audience emotionally by using visual, auditive and kinesthetic (chatting) ways
    • Teach them valuable information with visual feedback
    • Make them an offer where you can better show them (with images) the perceived value of your offer

    An image is worth a thousand words and selling or converting is all about following a structure to stimulate the emotions (limbic system) of your attendees.

    A podcast is great to give a lot of information and takes less time to prepare because you don't have to concentrate on the visual. However, because the structure is less planned and there are no images, conversion is much tougher.

    Both are great tools. It all depends on why and how you want to use them!

    Webinars are the best way to communicate with your target audience.

    Webinars/Videos boost online sales/conversion 3X better than the written word.

    And it's also very good if you're trying to sell a very expensive high ticket offers to your target market.

    Ton more familiar with webinars here so they work for me. Feels more cyber teachy so I vibe with it. Newer school compared to teleseminars too. Both do the trick though, overall.

    Webinars have always converted at a significantly higher rate for me, but I actually prefer teleseminars as a listener. It is a whole lot more convenient if I am traveling (even though GoToWebinar and others have a mobile option).
