GDPR ... Whois info?

I just noticed that all my domains that are registered with an ENOM register company all have whois privacy and I didn't purchase it for any of the domains.

I have one domain with register.com and when I do a whois lookup they don't return anything.

I have a bunch of domains with another register (non ENOM company) and nothing has changed. All domains don't have privacy and info is shown as normal.

I did a google search and it sounds like GDPR appears to effect whois info. There seems to be a conflict in how to handle.

What are you seeing?

Do you have domains without privacy and your info is being shown as normal or has changed?

    I have one normally unprotected with NC that I just checked and it is still naked.

    That's really interesting topic. According to the new GDPR it turns out that registers too have to forget about their Whois GUARD as a paid option and make it free so we can have free choice of our privacy revealance!

      I think, in the long run, it will enhance transparency, build consumer trust in data sharing and retrieving with and from the clients, enhance data security for the company and prevent any potential breaches as well.

    Namecheap just announced that their privacy protection was free for life for all new and existing domains.

    If you have an existing domain registered with them, you have to go through the shopping cart and place an "order" to apply privacy but it is free and no payment details are required.

      and it seems that their free protection extends ONLY to those domains that are registered in the EEA

    Your quote is from GoDaddy but I'm talking about Namecheap.

    I'm definitely not European - many moons ago I guess my people were but not anymore.

    I added the free protection to a currently unused domain this morning and now my data is hidden.

      I added the info re: GoDaddy because not everyone uses Namecheap (i.e. moi). I wasn't disputing your information. Just offered add'l info for the use of others.

      Not sure of what you exactly need, but for adsense you must make sure that EU users of your website are aware of cookies use on your website and that they CONSENT to continue browsing your site knowingly and wittingly.

    GDPR effects all the companies registered in the EU. Privacy policies, terms and conditions and user's rights to access their information, all have an effect on the information being shown on your website. You have to be GDPR compliant and make sure your product, website and official documentation represent that.

    If you do IM to all countries you need the GDPR on your site or you could get fined thousands of dollars. But as effecting Whois I haven't seen anything different on my accounts?

    Though there are tons of posts and articles explaining why you should pay for Whois Guard. That still does not make sense for me.
    Since a domain registration is similar to a business registration which shoule be open, how can whois guard hide it only when you pay for it.
