This Has Been the #1 Secret to My Success Online (Almost 20 Years Now)

There's a good chance, that what you have inside your
mind & brain RIGHT now is more than enough to grow a
successful business.

But what stops a lot of people?

In my experience, it's the feeling that there's always ONE
more key piece of advice, knowledge, or insight you need to
know.

You know... the "secret". The keys to the castle.

But what if I told you that learning one more piece of advice
is pointless, if you also don't practice the "doing" part.

After all, that's where true learning takes place.

It's from the knowing AND the doing.

I mean, sure... you could read a book on how to ride a bike.

But unless you get on the bike and start peddling... you won't
TRULY know what it takes.

And you can read a book on dating... but until you start
approaching people and trying to spark up a conversation...
you don't know really what it takes.

Don't get me wrong... there's a place for learning. Whether
it's reading a book or watching a video... I think learning
is great.

But what's even more important?

It's the DOING part that gets the knowledge ingrained
into your mind and body.

Then, once you REALLY know how things work, you can
decide if it's something that's right for you.

Look, having success online comes from learning and DOING.

When I started almost 20 years ago, I'd read something in a
book and immediately apply it.

If it worked, cool... I did more of it.

If it didn't, I didn't go back to it.

And I feel it's the learning and experience and applying
everything I read that allowed me to have pretty fast
success online.

I feel a lot of people who still haven't had success... it's
because they're not DOING.

They keep reading and learning, but fail to apply it and
get real-world feedback that's so valuable.

Because with real-world feed back, you can see if a new
product will sell.

You can see if a new traffic source or a new email series
will work.

Until then, it's all just a guess.

When you learn this way, get feedback, and then apply
that feedback into what you're doing... you suddenly
find yourself leaps and bounds ahead of where you were.

And ahead of all those people who continue to read and
search for that "one last key piece of knowledge" (that doesn't
exist).

When you apply something you've read... you can learn
from that experience.

And you start to understand what truly works and what
doesn't.

That alone will speed up your success online, faster
than just about anything else you can do.

Because what you read is just an opinion... it's not
FACT because you haven't applied it or tested it yourself.

And what works for one person online doesn't always
work for others.

I feel that the #1 reason for my online success has been
the willingness to take what I read, apply it, and then use
that feedback to either keep going.

Or tweak it, or ditch it altogether.

The feedback makes all the difference.

And it's something you can't get from a book, or from
watching a video, or even from a coaching call.

Some times, you gotta get your hands dirty in order
to find out what really works and what doesn't.

    Great stuff Shawn.

I am learn more each week; if you do simple things with the right energy over the long haul, you stand out from the crowd and see greater and greater success. This is one of my secrets to being all over the place. From an energy of fear, or not enough, most bloggers write one post and try to squeeze SO much out of it, over weeks or even months, being heavily attached to outcomes. They look for new tactics or secrets to keep driving traffic. Some success, but muted.

Since I'm not burdened with a heavy fear-based attachment to outcomes, I'd publish 300 posts - between guesties and Blogging From Paradise - during those months. I'd also read and comment on a few thousand blogs, I'd promote hundreds or thousands of bloggers and I'd worry not about my returns, just being generous.

At the end of 2-3 months I appear to be in a gazillion places, helping folks, keeping it simple but persistent while many other bloggers are in a few spots, still trying to squeeze as much as possible through the one post. We all who's getting noticed when it's me versus them. But to cultivate this energy and to not desperately reach for the new tool or tactic, and to keep things simple, I had to do a bunch of mindset and energy work to feel and purge fears so I could blog mainly from a vibe of love, for fun.

Keep sharing buddy. I love your stuff.

Great post OP. Yes I teach IT students and constantly remind them that they will learn most by DOING.

I am self taught as a programmer. I just learnt by writing code. I never did a course or any other formal study.

      100% absolutely!

You can often learn more in 30 minutes of DOING than you can years of
      reading.

I spent my first 2 years of college in a Criminal Justice program and got a
      degree.

I learned more in one week on the job, as a cop, than I did the entire 2 years
      of college.

When you "do"... it just sticks and becomes habit, almost ingrained in you.

Reading... well, you typically will read so much, so often, that nothing really
      sticks out to you anymore.

Good point on the learning code... I also wrote my first UGLY site in 2002
using HTML. So I agree totally.

    Thanks shawn lebrun for sharing.

Learning and then apply, that's how a disaster can become a master.

Imagine, grab all those years and invest them into the future!
