Endless Opt-in Funnels

Lately, I have received a lot of what I think are called "endless opt-in funnel". (Clicking the Download button opens a new tab with another opt-in. Presenting you with 2 opt-in forms.)

Is this a new trend?

Are they effective? Do you really get multiple opt-ins?

Personally, I find them annoying. What do others think of this approach?

    Of course it all comes down to testing - what you or I "think" doesn't really come in to play very much unless results show it is not working.

    I personally am ok with 1-2 funnel steps IF the offers are highly related to my initial desire to opt-in...the problem is that people stack offers that are not closely enough related and lose their prospects in funnel hell.

    I have found that 1 upsell in my own funnel works best with additional upsells and cross-sell via lists, blog and social retargeting.

    Unless these folks are hyper clear on using 2 opt in forms, this will backfire. A bit desperate methinks. In most cases.

    I have to agree with Jeff above. I personally think it's best to keep it simple and relevant to the expressed interest of the subscriber.


    Personally, I would use just one opt-in to get the subscriber's consent for continued communications in the niche. Then, in your followup marketing, you can work with the subscriber and offer him/her the chance to opt-in to other lists, newsletters, or programs according to the prospect's interest and desire for additional information.


    I think many marketers are just plain lazy. Rather than taking the time to nurture and segregate their lists into more specific and focused audiences, they just thrust a bunch of different opt-in boxes in front of the prospect hoping they'll just every list they own. Even worse, are the marketers that wrongfully take one subscription as giving them license to then send the subscriber every offer in every niche they deal in.


    In my mind, great marketers are typically the ones that do what's best for the customer, even if it means a little extra work for them.

    Yes, I agree.

    Getting multiple optins can be confusing and annoying for most people.

    For me, 1 optin form is enough.

    Unless I am launching and promoting my own info products.

    Because when it comes to those, you need not 1, not 2 but 3 option forms for your

    1. Subscribers

    2. Customers and

    3. Affiliates / JV Partners

    The multiple opt-in forms are going to backfire... I am interested enough to move through the first one but once it becomes more than that I just close the window. I hope this practice doesn't become a standard. It is annoying.

    Life is an endless opt-in, until it isn't.

    Once you are in the urn or coffin, you have no worries (hopefully) about your options.

    Every single Opt-In you receive, was generated by YOUR initial reaction to something.

    YOU set the ball in motion. You, apparently, are annoyed with your own action, as you state; "clicking the download button..."

    Try not to click on the next one you come across, that is called an Opt-Out.

    PS. But rest assured, you will be marketed to until you're gone, and even then, your family (if you have any) will have options: casket/urn...wooden coffin/metal?

    OP. You don't really understand what is happening. The first opt-in form that you subscribed to was the optin form of the creator of the funnel.


    The other optin forms are for his/her click banking partners or customers who are buying clicks from them.


    They are just optimizing their funnel to get more leads or profit from the initial lead.
