Asking for backlinks on website

Hi all.



A quick question. I have a website that sees an average of 11,000 unique users a day. I offer digital downloads and see about 5,000 unique downloads a day. I do ask users to credit my website if they use the digital product (which is free) but not many do.


Anyway, my question is, I want to start giving away a free upgrade to our premium content is a user creates a back link on his/her website or blog. If I do this, is it a bad idea? Would the search engines see it as buying back links and throw me a penalty?

    I'm sure it won't harm your site, but only make it stronger.

    If you already are #1 on your main keyword, then you don't need to do that.

    In your place, I would protect the download with a content locker and either make people share your website on social media OR lock it with CPA offer. If you have 5000 downloads a day, you might earn several hundred to thousand dollars a day.

    It would be frowned upon by Google and against their rules but I doubt that it would be bad enough to get penalized for and more than likely they wouldn't notice. If you would say jump to 1,000 links pointing to your site in one day it would be flagged as suspicious.

    Or if all of the links are from the same IP address block it would be flagged as suspicious and the links marked as low value but not penalized. I do believe this would not be an issue in your case though.

    Here's how I'd handle your situation:

    1) Make your download terms sound stronger

    2) Make sure people have to agree to the TOS before they can download

    3) Run a scraper on all your file names and find all the places who have downloaded and stored your content

    4) Make sure you can prove ownership

    5) Reach out with a friendly but firm "TOS REMINDER" email

    Your website already ranked for specific keywords,So dont Thick-rolled sales and marketing. Try to manage separately sales and back link management.

    Asking for backlinks on the website is called link exchange, Linking request & Guest Post. Basically Asking for backlinks on the website simply means you're asking for a link from someone's website.

    It's a very old technique for link building & name of this linking technique has already many names.

    What sort of digital downloads is it? I've seen similar types of setups on icon sites, and to be honest I always take the free download and don't credit the author.

    11,000 unique users is a lot! If you can crack how to get credit / get paid you will be doing well.

    Really depends on where the links are from. If they're random links from irrelevant sites (i mean, you won't know what sites these links will be on from what I gather), yes it can (will) do more harm than good. It's not 2009 anymore.

    I think you should use a CPA affiliate network that allow you do (incentive promotion)
    try this one: mostcpa.com and pick up some offers that agree with incentive and link your button of download with some code that ask users to make the action before downloading the material.
