Custom link shorteners

Bit.ly is the perfect example, but there are lots of vanity URLs around too. They help promote your brand or website (for example, abc.de/website), or a cause (dona.te/help). And since they are shortened, users are less likely to fuss over typing. I mean, it's easier typing a short URL rather than url.com/ineedhelptoday, right?

What about you? Have you implemented custom link shortener?

Prettylinks is the way to go.

They are on your own domain and you control them.

Yeah..but they have its own limitations, unless you buy the premium version. For example, there will be time when you would export the links... so be sure you have it covered!

  • Link Shorteners are good, but if you have a website that Facebook doesn't like (for example) using a link shortener will not fool them.
Better to use your own Domain in my opinion.

i use urlfuse simply upload the script to your site and you have your own url shorting service.Great little traffic tool as all shortened links go to your site first then on to the destination page.

am using Bitly .. I haven't used the other ones. If you don't have a domain name. Bitly is your best choice.

As mentioned in this recent thread: https://www.warriorforum.com/main-in...l#post11552105 using a third-party link shortener has risks.

You have to rely on that service not going away or else you'll lose access to any existing links you can't get at. And there's also the fact that bit.ly allows anyone to view your stats.

Better to use a plugin like prettylinks or set up a redirect via your own domain.

Sharest (used to be TagOn) has a number of potent features, like adding retargeting pixels to links, ads, optins and more...and they have a free version.

As Frank pointed out above, there are risks to using a third-party shortener/redirect service. But Sharest has a bunch of advanced features for marketers and these types of links can be very useful for links with a short "life expectancy" like product launches and social media posts.
