What Was Your "Aha" Moment With Internet Marketing?

My "Aha" moment occurred when I realized that a beautiful website with great products and targeted traffic alone was not going to cut it.

It happened when I realized that I was wasting money advertising without having a way to gather leads and follow up.

What mentality or mistakes do you believe is holding others back when it comes to marketing effectively?

Or what was YOUR "Aha" moment that changed your course?

My "Aha" moment came when I realized that I don't have to REINVENT THE WHEEL every time I produce content

High ranking competitors' content have 'fingerprints' which yield the following:
    - strenghts
    - areas for improvement
    - 'industry standard' re tone / voice / structure / word count

Using this information, I get to pick my battles wisely and RANK
    - Don't write on topics/sub-topics your competitors will CRUSH you on
    - Write content based on their weak spots
    - Reverse engineer their backlink / social media support profile

Result: easier ranking / easier links (after outreach, of course)

Compare this to the common place non-strategy of "publish and hope for the best"

My "aha" moment actually came nearly 25 years ago when I was invited to do a presentation at a trade show, because of some articles I had written for my local newspaper. I got more contacts and leads from that one speech than all of the other vendors combined.

I learned that you can't beat the competition head-on by doing what they're doing. Even now more than ever the competition for attention is stiff. In my experience, leveraging exposure through other people's lists is an extremely formidable strategy in even the most hotly competitive niches.

For example, writing relevant and engaging articles for online/offline publications which are being read by your targeted prospects can be the quickest method to by-pass much of the competition. And, publications are often hungry for quality articles to provide to their subscribers and reading audiences.

My "Aha" moment came when I decided to CUT ALL THE FAT of a complex system and focused only on three things for a consistent period of time!
Not sure why, but I found myself obsessing with new techniques, software, complex email flows, long sales pages, expensive courses,... and thought that was the right way when it actually was just the opposite.

Not understanding. Some of those things you mentioned are necessary. So what are the 3 things in your mind?

I mean, not the idea that it needs to be complex.

But you do need some form of communication to sell, whether that be: emails, a sales letter, a web page, a video, or a phone or in-person conversation.

Are you saying you simplified these things?

I guess my moment came when I realized that big efforts expended on building a website was not really the answer. Instead a more simple two component approach. First a landing page with a magnet and an optin form
    and
Second the download page with a link to the item.

Much simpler than spending hours building websites with all the bells and whistles

My "Aha" moment was, that learning the theory alone won't get you anywhere. You also have to apply what you have learned and make your own practical experiences. These are much more important, than all the knowledge that you learn in online courses or ebooks. Then you will realize that some of what you have learned was nothing more than B.S. and is simply not working in reality.

Starting my own little projects brought me real-life data and outcome, which I could use to optimize my efforts. Taking action and see what works and what doesn't and then optimize things is the only way to success.

Mine was inconsistency. at some point of the year, I invested so much in SEO and then took a lull. after a year plus a few months, I had to repeat what I had done at a price again.

Honestly, there is SOOOO many way to do it right in internet marketing that being consistent should do the trick.

However, I never been able to suceed in I.M. because of lack of support in all these years.

Could I've been successful faster with a good coach and program? Yeah probably but I didnt want to invest thousands for a good mentor.

Should I done it ? Yeah... probably I would probably have end up with lot less frustration and headache.

Anyway, to answer your answer, my Aah! moment was when I find out how to build an online business with the help of social media and my support group. Investment was small for the potential ROI so I gave it a shot. Never looked back since then.

So why did I told you to look in the possibility to find a good mentor ? Because when you find one in the right kind of business you want to develop AND if you put the work in it, you WILL have success.

My biggest "a-ha" moment is when I realized that everything doesn't have to be perfect.

It's far better to just put something out there than to strive for perfection.

For example, my brother has wanted to launch his own YouTube channel for over a year now but keeps redoing things before his channel even launched.

A mentor of mine gave me this formula.

    Success = simplicity x consistency

A lot of people over complicate the whole process.

My "aha" moment came when i realized that my site need to have malware protection.

When i started my own online business, i did not really care about that. I just need to have a simple website as my online store, i was naive to think that it's ok

It was not, my online income was stopped over night just because of my site could not show up to my prospect.

I'm still waiting for my "Aha moment".

I've been making money off the internet for about 4 years now. Just within the last year, I can say that it's my full-time job (and my only source of income at that)....but I still feel like I know nothing. I experimented with FB ads for about a month with no success, and that was my only experience using paid advertising.

I still have yet to do any A/B testing or optimization of any sort.

In short my marketing skills are non-existent, but somehow I manage to make some money.

I have a long way to go!

My "aha" moment was just two to three weeks ago when shifted my mind from buying products after products to someone who took action and is just getting each and every day success by getting new commission or new leads. I didn't know that ranking for online marketing product is so easy. And finally I found out I have been my own enemy by holding me bag of taking action. Now I am affiliate marketer in just few weeks and also planning my first launch. And very soon also my free course. All this was what I couldn't thought about. But now I am doing all this just going out of my comfort zone but enjoying it in the same time. So the fact that am a dooer now is the most "aha" factor for me

My AHA moment was the realisation when I am working if the task doesn't fit into one of these two categories then it is wasting time and energy...
    1. Generating targetted traffic
    2. Increasing conversions

Literally everything else is not worth doing.

Pretty much, yes.. Anything else is wasted energy. All that time spent trying to learn a new piece of software that doesn't work as advertised. Watching a Youtube tutorial when you already understand what is being taught. Punching the F5 button on your Clickbank account every 2 minutes.

None of the above stuff is going to add anything to your bottom line or at best.. Very little.

Creating content and doing stuff to promote your site is the only work that will eventually add numbers to your bank balance.

my biggest 'aha 'moment was that I finally started realizing a few months ago that my whole mindset was wrong and that I have to work on it

I learned that I had to change my way of living in order to become an action taker instead of someone who is just a consumer and buyer

It's funny. When I experiencing 'aha' moment it looks like my life changed and now I am the king of the world, but after few months I again experiencing 'aha' moment... so, to be honest, I had 'aha' moments like hundred times. The last one was when I watched a youtube video and read a lot of info about 'inner resistance' , currently this is the latest 'aha' moment which I am thinking is the main and most iportant one.

Marlon Sanders sent us a letter. At that time I was the featured writer for an Entrepreneurial Newsletter published by an established marketer.

Marlon told us how he was gang testing on AOL, CompuServe and other new web sites.

He was one of the first people to create a funnel and sell electrons, what would become ebooks, reports and PDF files eventually. I bought his course, great stuff (Amazing Formula)...

I tested it, said dad gum it, this stuff works and have been selling electrons online since 1998. Over the decades, there were lots of "real" products sold too, but year in and year out, our bread and butter has been virtual, electronic, digital products. See no need to change anything for the future.

When they listen to a lot of mamby-pamby nonsense.

Do you want to build an online business and make money or do you want to frolic on a fairy-filled path to a magic garden where you float on fluffy clouds with fuzzy unicorns?

You don't have to be "passionate," you don't have to build a tribe and be a paper guru.

You need to learn marketing. How to get your offer in front of people who are looking to buy what you are selling. Writing copy that sells to convert them to buyers. It's a very old game known as advertising.

Once you learn effective marketing techniques, you can market anything successfully.

There's an old formula I learned in my mail-order days - run three ads per day. Online that can be posting on social media, creating a video, writing an article, setting up a PPC campaign, etc.
The idea is that after a while if you are consistent you will have numerous chances for people to see your ad.

When I first moved my business online one of the old-timers told me, "Your income is directly proportional to the number of 'buy' buttons you have out there." In my case, these days it's links to affiliate products. I make sales every day that I have no idea where they came from. Most I can trace back to the source but there's a growing number that I can't. Some post or comment I made somewhere.

Get out there and let people know you have something to sell that's worth buying. Be relentless, be focused, be a damn salesman!

    Those things still work

i was learning to use a computer and fiddling around online while i was on a medical leave for 6 weeks 20 years ago....a month later i received a check in the mail for $112 - my thought was 'hot damn - it works'.

The biggest mistake people make? There are many of them. The two that come to mind for me are:

    1. thinking you have to be part of a group or a team or have someone telling you every step to take (AND 'motivating' you to take each step). If you can't work alone - can't make decisions...this is not for you.

    2. Doing the least amount of work possible and then waiting 'to see what happens'. Nothing will.
