INTERNET MARKETING

I have a wordpress blog that is two years old. I want more flexibility but more importantly I wanted to know if my domain blank.wordpress is hurting me. If it is and I import the contents to a better domain, will I be punished for having duplicate content (although I do plan on deleting the original).

Any advice?

You can use both with similar content.

Wordpress.com is good from seo side and fast indexing but you don't own it, it does not look pro for your users.

Use wordpress' help to import the content properly to maintain the structure of your internal links.

Treat the blank.wp.com like an article directory you get to make the rules on.
post half a post there and link to the full post on your domain
post spun blog posts
whatever

The whole duplicate content argument is suspect.
If you google Jonathan Leger and duplicate content, he has a great pdf that gives evidence for how duplicate content does or does not affect your rankings.

I've had the experience of posting two identical articles on different directories and having the second posting outrank the first. So, I'm very dubious of the penalty.

Do a redirect to your new domain name. Your own domain always works better for you in the long run, although you can get some 'linkjuice' from Google by having a wordpress.com hosted site.
