How to monetize my 2011-blog? 1000 organic views / day but no real products to sell..

I started a blog in 2011 as a hobby. It is a blog in which I continued to gather information about loudspeakers, I repaired/ restored speaker cabinets, etc., all from the 1950ies to 1980ies.
[link removed by moderator]

By now, the site gets roughly 800-1000 organic visitors per day and I am thinking of some way to monetize it.

Now, as you can imagine, there is little "new" info available on this type of equipment and so my old articles remained on top ranks until now, even after 10 years. However, I never really dealt with monetization, because it started as a hobby.

I tried amazon partnernet -> not worth it, as I have a global audience (70% USA,CA,UK,Japan) and even though I did advertise some related products (items for restoration), it is not what my viewers typically look for (they look for information about old speakers -> they get it-> they leave). in short: 5$ a month

I tried google adsense ->it is ok, but I moved out of country, closed adsense to reopen a new adsense acc in my home country but now have reopening issues (due to corona google approvements are slow, let´s see how that contines).

And so I thought, maybe 1000 views / day are actually worth a little bit... so:

Do you guys have any other ideas how to get some money out of this site? 50€/$ a month would allow me to spend that money on new loudspeakers. Again, it is a hobby... (on the other hand, more money doesn´t stink).

  • Hi,

Do you exactly know why people visit your page? Who are these people?
What's their perspective? What specifically are their looking for and do they find it?

Is it just a piece of information?

What sort of solution are you offering? Are your visitors able to repair their loudspeakers by themselves after getting your information?

Based on the above questions, you could rent your traffic, partner up with a youtube creator or maybe go for lead generation...

      Hi there,
I just recognized I wanted to send you a response on your message, but due to not having 5 posts yet, it did not go through. Will try it now again (this is no.5).

For starters.. build a list. Market to the list. It is as simple as placing a opt-in form on your site.

Which probably gets us back to a variation of the OP's original question. "What do you sell to the people who do opti-in?"

EDIT UPDATE: After posting the above question, a thought occurred to me on what to sell: An ebook on speaker repairs, a video course, a combination of the two perhaps.

I haven't looked, but I doubt there's much competition for that on Clickbank, so it might attract some big-gun affiliates who can boost the number of sales exponentially.

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

    Thanks!

I made google surveys before and the reasons people visit my site is to get information about these speakers, frequently also to get an idea of their value on the second hand market. Unfortunately, I do usually get visitors who already have an old speaker, not someone who is looking to buy them.

I´ll have a look into renting traffic and lead generation! Not sure, if anyone would want my traffic .

In most cases people find what they look for (based on the survey N=150) .

@Jeffery: What type of list do you mean? Sorry, if the question is too basic...

I see. If there are instructions and 'How To's, video is always king.

So you could just type in 'how to repair loudspeaker' 'classic loudspeaker reapir' and similar keyphrases in youtube.

I just did that and found videos in the million views.
You mentioned $50 as a small goal.

Youtube creators make money with ads and affiliate offers.
You got about 800 - 1,000 views per day, so 25k - 30k per month. How much do you think a creator would be willing to pay you for that kind of traffic if you embedd his videos in your page?

Or let's say, 2 or 3 videos about specific topics? I bet there is one who would make that deal and trade the traffic for 50 bucks per month.

      Best,
      Markus

Well try maybe you can find an affiliate product about speakers ,if not try to create one its not so hard ,or you can pay someone to make it for you in freelancing sites like fiver ,upwork etc .Also try to build an email list .I think if you get 1000 visitis per day you can easily achieve your target

Yeah and the first email in a series of emails I would ask the subscribers what products are they interested in. That is step #1 in selling to a target market.

Actually, I was hoping the OP would ask the question, so I could determine if he/she is serious or just fishing.

    Thanks for your responses.

@Jefferey, now I see what you meant with that "list", that´s why I asked above what you mean by it. I´ll see how to implement that.

@BouPly: Yep, I know some of these ad networks. I did try Infolinks, which was pretty disappointing. Buysellads ... I think I did not have enough views / month, when I checked it out (5 years ago). But maybe I give 1-2 networks another try, thanks. And indeed, I could have just googled that myself.

    Thanks everybody for the input

You could consider writing new content that would appeal to people looking to purchase vintage speakers. Perhaps a buyer's guide that answers the most common questions and concerns people have. With this traffic, you could refer people to Ebay listings and earn commissions on each sale through the platform's partner program.

Good for you! Back when you started that, I attempted to start a handful of blogs one after another, but always failed. Good job on keeping that going strong.

You can easily monatize your blog by applying for the google adsence. if you got approval then simply you can earn money. Also try another ad networks to monatize your blog such as Adstera.

If you had actually bother to read the Original post, he mentions he had adsense. He reapplied again and is waiting for the approval in his new location

Plus, Google Adsense (GA) only generates enough profit to realize a ROI when you have hundreds of sites monetized with GA? So, only one site monetized with GA will "not" generate enough profit to realize a ROI?

Build a list and promote products in your niche, you could probably buy some plr and rebrand them and promote to the list you could potentially build.

you should listen to what other members already told you - to find something within your niche..

but if for any reason you still don't have any kind of product that is worth it to promote or you are still stuck with your question...

why not just promoting a make money online product/course?

I know it has nothing to do with the rest of your website but it's a simple solution and everyone loves money and most people want to have more of it..so it's something you can promote independent to your niche and I'm sure you will get some customers

(of course the requirement is that you don't promote a bad product)

  • Try sticking some ads on it.

Give Ezoic a try - their rates are pretty good so you may be able to hit your target of $50 a month quite easily with that.

    Thanks guys & ladies.

I made some adjustments and added some relevant products (speaker cleaning and repair utensils) via amazon partnernet.

There were many other suggestions that would may be even more profitable (subscription list, finding youtube creators to sell traffic and more), but in the end I want a very passive solution, even if it means I am missing some € on the way. But thanks for those suggestions! Also, I am not skilled in web-design, so easy CSS/HTML-tasks might already be a problem for me. Don´t forget: My site is on blogspot for a good reason :-) . (In my own defense: nowadays I use wordpress)

I´ll see how things turn out and will come back with some feedback! I will also add 1-2 banners, but am still figuring out which advertiser to use.

By the way: I changed my google adsense account (moved to another country) and after having adsense on the site for 8 years, it is now being denied :-/ . So it is maybe the right point in time to look out for alternatives anyway..

FOCUS on building your list.... it seems you don't have it.

You can use substack .com (FREE). You can leverage your readers to subscribe into your mailing list and deliver great offers inside your list.

In this way an hobby can become an huge business :-)

I don't think this is a big problem, because nowadays you can monetize almost anything.
