The Old Newbie - Still Needing Advice

I've been on/off with affiliate marketing for years (which I've always called - internet marketing). I'm very confident that it works...I can just never get it to work.

Find a Niche Market
Find a Product(s) in that Niche Market
Create a Website / Landing Page
Create Sales Copy
Create/Submit Articles (drive traffic to the website)

This is the basic concept I've tried. Nobody really seems to reveal exactly what they are doing or understandably what niches they are working. Seems like in the past I ran into people who told me I needed another shiny coin for $$$ to make it work. But if what I outlined above is the basic concept that everyone says works - what am I missing?

I've looked into numerous niche markets - health/fitness to gardening. I've tried to write my own ebook, sell vitamins, shoes, and other internet marketer's materials. I know it takes a while, but seriously...I'd love to make $1 some day. lol

I'm at a point in life that I can afford the time (and money) to really try to make something work. I would just enjoy a little extra income ($500-$1000/mo) and the satisfaction on finally seeing something work in the industry.

Any advice for an "old" newbie on the block?

I'll leave the advice for others as affiliate marketing is not my 'thing' - but I will point out your link in your sig does not work....it goes to an 'available' domain.

I clicked on it because your sig seems to be promoting the same method you are asking about...is that a leftover from years past?

Your list find, find, create, create, create does work, and as you have stated as long as you know HOW to "work" it.

I personally do not do much "Affilate" marketing... i am a sell products kind of guy. The reason I am even responding here is you mentioned "Shoes" So maybe my advice will not fall on unwilling ears.

I have a thread ( https://www.warriorforum.com/warrior...days-ebay.html ) that is probably as close to step by step and proven to work as you will find anywhere.

What I think gets interesting is the skills required to make eBay work, are in a lof of ways the same skills needed to sell anything and everything else ( with the exception of getting traffic ) Picture, Title, and price is what grabs the potential buyers attention. A squeeze page is dang near about no different.

If you can get eBay to work for you, you can then carry over those skills to another endeavor.

If you have any questions you can ask them herer or over on the other thread!

    Hope that Helps!

You are on the right track with your methods but you
    need to do MORE.

You are missing social media marketing, YouTube
video promoting, and other current methods.

You don't actually need a website or landing page,
there are other things that can be done with affiliate
links, but that is your decision.

I would suggest that you read a book and brush up
    on things.

I would also advise you to focus on one thing at
a time until you get things going, instead of being
    all over the place.

    Scattered efforts bring scattered results.

Since you are seasoned, focus on big ticket, high
    end, and recurring commission items.

You can also do things that are trending, but bread
and butter should be things that will pay substantial
amounts whenever there is a sale.

i always find they isnt any point promoting something that gets you that $1 dollar commision, putting all the hard work to try and get thousands of leads, but rather find a program that provides good commision strutcture and has embeded multiple income streams so that one lead could get you thousands, but at the same time not focus on commisions but providing value, funny you mention old newbie, the best ways of giving value is the old skool ways like forums, and you tube, blogging and actually building your own email list, when you know how to provide value to a email list treating them as a friend you can literally sell anything to them, but give some sort of value to them, there is obviously ads that do work, but i do like having my own website, doing you tube videos and email marketing, and finding something that works and provided multiple streams of income but it does envolve hard work, i hope this helps you

My second question to you is have you identified any gaps in the market so that you can provide unique solutions .

I'm willing to bet you're stumbling at the drive traffic to the website part, and the conversion action after that. Have you ever tried building an email list? If so, did you try to sell your affiliate product or were you focused on providing helpful information first?

I would ask you how much traffic you're getting, where you're getting them from, and what you want them to do once they land on your website.

Any advice for an "old" newbie on the block?
Before I offer any advice, it is usually my habit to make sure I understand INTENT. Because once I know what is on the other side of the bridge you desire to cross, what lies in those greener pastures, what you want to find when you go around the bend...

THAT...is going to determine the action you take. Now savidge4 gave you great advice, and I will add, that he has also in the past suggested people DOCUMENT their journey and create products from that.

So advice is; ASSESS where you are at, and apparently you have a little time and money to work with...so get a firm idea on WHERE you want to go, or what you want.

See the making money part, 500 to 1000 extra a month was easily demonstrated in savidge4's ebay thread. He and his 9 year old son at the time went from nothing to easily reach your numbers buying and selling on ebay.

The whole money thing is about TRANSACTIONS and exchanging value. I strongly suggest you get away from affiliate marketing, you have better things at your disposal...including your PAST, that is experience. And KNOWLEDGE maybe in other areas.

Despite being easy to get into it, the making of money continuously with affiliate marketing is a grind, until you start selling how to make money in affiliate marketing...as I'm sure you are finding out.

What life skills do you have? What interests? Hobbies, spare time activities? What is your personality type? Where do you live and can your location hold hidden and stored value?

So my advice is STOP for a week and self evaluate, ASSESS yourself, list your skills, etc. Take personality tests, make lists, and then revisit us and maybe we can offer better and more specific advice custom suited to you, rather than general pablam we normally serve up here.

If you think about a wheel... your website would be the hub in the center each spoke would be lets say social media accounts ( being obvious ) and then things like responding to posts on forums ( think for a moment if I had a link in my bio or down in my signature would you click it? )

All of those spokes through the use of content will help drive traffic to your site.

"Better" traffic is simply getting traffic for a specific thing you can answer. Posting a link for Apple devices on a Android forum just doesnt work... but if you have many articles about Apple products and on an apple related forum you are responding and have a link to your site... people will click, and those clicks are targettrd ( by topic ) and therefore "Better"

Ok first things first. Thanks for opening up and letting us into the problem you've been facing.

To make this simple, please understand that affiliate marketing works best when you position it as tools vs opportunities.

The problem with beginners is we usually start with no transformation value, which means if I was to ask you what solution do you bring to the table as in why should a person pay you, nine times out of ten as a beginner we don't have any.

So the first thing you must do is learn a transformation. This will give you marketing value which means someone will be willing to pay you to help them first and your affiliate program whatever you are in can be positioned as a tool that will help them with this transformation.

So for instance, let's say for my transformational value, I was really good at running 3-Step EDDM flyer campaign, that attracts your ideal buyers from any Local market whose ready to do business now...

I could market my services to local business owners that teaches them how to set up and run an EDDM campaign which entails, creating their postcard campaign (fee to me) as I have the skill of creating postcards and a etting up a lead funnel to work with the campaign, (I'll tell them to sign up for a funnel building service that I have an affiliate link for, positioned as the tool I use to run my campaigns). Which also pays me an affiliate commission.

So in hindsight it's not about trying to make sales with affiliate links. It's coming up with ways to use your superpowers as an entrepreneur based on your skill set, and then positioning your affiliate tools as vehicles to help with the transformation. A little advice....

Never promote a ONE time commission affiliate program.

Always promote something that can pay you monthly residual income.

This is the ONLY advice I will give you today.

Recurring is great but if you are promoting high end products,
or even something with a moderate price, there's nothing wrong
with a one-time commission on those sales.

Let's say, for example, that a person has a website promoting
trips to the moon and there's a 15% commission. Who cares
that it's not recurring especially if it's passive.

Ideally, you should be doing a variety of things and not limiting
yourself to one thing and not doing the other.

Do what Randall Magwood said. Build a 'self-hosted' Wordpress website in a niche where there are plenty of affiliate products. Build an email list from your website using Aweber or MailChimp or GetResponse etc.

For me, this sounds like the typical thing that everyone goes through sooner or later, which is that you have tried many different things, had many ideas, but you were never able to commit to exactly what it is that you really want to do.

In other words, you have tried everything possible, but you have never worked on one thing long enough to even have the potential to be successful with it. Now the question is why that is.

Probably, among other things, it is because you haven't found something that you truly believe in and stand behind 100% yourself. Especially if you want to be successful with affiliate marketing, it is essential that you not only believe in the product 100%, but also that you discipline yourself to fully focus on this thing for a longer period of time and ignore everything else.

Otherwise, you will permanently struggle and nothing will work out.

And what can really help in situations like this is having a kind of mentor who ensures that you can ask questions and also helps you stay focused on the matter.
