One of our sites hot up in rankings after removing text based content on collection pages

One of our sites (shopify, ecommerce) shot up in rankings after all the text based content on collection pages (under the products around 200 words) were removed. Any idea why this might occur? It was optimised content for our target keywords.

    Not enough information to offer an intelligent answer. How long was the site up with the content? How long has it been without the content? Was the content overoptimized? Is it a super easy or difficult to rank for niche?

    Especially with relatively new websites and web pages, Google does a ton of tests, bumping sites up and down in the rankings to see what the click-through and user signals are on site pages at various positions. Quite often, these rankings bumps are only temporary.

    Apologies for that. Here are some context:

    The site has been optimised for almost a year now, client has a different web dev team that disclosed they only replaced the "theme" of the site and accidentally removing the keywords we optimised on the bottom of the collection/product page.

    I don't think it was over-optimized, either. Could it have been a change in the website design that caused this? Or their web host, HTML coding, etc.

    I am throwing rocks in the dark here, since I have no idea why the rankings went up like that when I was struggling to keep it afloat when I had the optimised keywords in the site.

    How long ago was the text based content added or edited compared to when your rankings shot up after its removal? Google does give a recency weight to when pages are updated.

    Where you building/earning backlinks at the same time?

    Did your competitors slide?

    There are too many other factors to consider

    Regardless, if your rankings hold up after the next 3 to 5 Google updates, whatever you did truly WORKED.
