So I'm new to the forum but a common theme and thread I've seen, especially those asking about getting clients and their marketing is that they're struggling to sell themselves and their services.

Ironically, I had a virtual session with a coaching client this week and in discussing their business side, this same aspect came up; "I'm bad at marketing myself".

My advice to the client and to all of you is simple: TREAT YOUR BUSINESS AS A SEPERATE ENTITY!

You are your business, 100% BUT from a psychological perspective you need to have some separation and look at it as it's own person. The same concept is often applied in law. When you grasp this concept, it will help your marketing and your business in general.

    Good advice. It is almost impossible for an Entrepreneur in start up stages to be able to do this. Successful Entrepreneurs, the ones who build a sustainable business usually eat, sleep and dream their business all day long.

    Although I do agree with you, and separation of Biz and Self is a good idea, few will be able to do this. As a coach, why don't you share some actual HOW TO do this tips or pointers, I'm sure we'd be interested in applying this sage advice via some step by step methods or other techniques you may have. Fair enough?

        So for new Warriors, who have not decided on what they want to do, or are still their business and can't separate from it yet...

        Here is my step by step plan of action.

        1) Assessment. Where you are, what you have, and why.
        2) DECISION on what you want, and why.
        3) Goal to getting what you want, with TIME LINES.
        4) PLAN OF ACTION, as much detail as one can muster for trying to get from here (today) to there (goal) in the future.
        5) ACTION, execution of the POA
        6) Adjustment. Always going to have obstacles, detours and POA needs adjusting.
        7) Accomplishment and resetting of goals, or abandonment and resetting of goals.

        So that is my 7 step method to a psychologically sound method for maintaining good mental health as one seeks their goals.

    You can treat your business as a separate entity, but you
    still need to know what you are doing.

    I have been MMO for 25+ years and I have noticed with
    the coaching industry (I am referring to your client) that
    people are coaching on topics or getting into businesses
    that they know nothing about.

    A few of them have come on WF asking questions about
    what they should do now that they have an actual client
    or other inane questions.

    They present themselves as experts when they have no
    experience whatsoever and they're completely clueless.

    I am on another platform and it's the same story, people
    posing as professional instructors to teach various online
    business, but they have no earthly idea about any of it.

    Online business is just like any other type of business,
    you have to take the time to learn some relevant things,
    you're not going to make money just because you have
    an idea, or because you think you can duplicate what
    somebody else is doing, or because you made a blog.

    It's not even that complicated, all they have to do is
    read a book or somebody's website.

    Treat your BUSINESS as a BUSINESS.

      Well the particular business I do know about, in that exact forementioned case.

      I completely agree with regards to the coaching industry and often it's a major problem. Obviously my side is more psychological and mental health but it all bleeds in but I do concur.

      Your final statement is exactly it. Treat it as a business.

    I will deviate from your point and i would go to one of my conception
    You must treat your business like a business and not like a hobby
    Many so called gurus say you can work 1 or 2 hours daily and you can make 300 per day
    I dont say its not posible but not as just starting because you need to grow your social media channels ,build a list ,build an authority etc and for this you may need to work 8 to 10 hours each day

        Back in the day, before I retired early, I had a job and it was
        difficult getting up and going there every weekday. The whole
        thing was a drag, but I eventually replaced my salary with my
        online income.

        My life is much easier now, I get pensions so I don't actually
        have to do anything at all, but I prefer to keep myself busy.

        I agree about the income claims, anyone can say anything
        on a forum, and sometimes they tend to exaggerate.

        Could you please @ or quote so we can tell who you are

    My first thought is always: What have YOU done yourself to be profitable?

    Saying you started a consulting business and have x number of clients doesn't qualify.

    What have YOU done to create the wealth that you teach others?

    My real estate rentals generate over $ 500,000 a month. Yes, there are more profitable real estate investors, but that's where I'm at with real estate at the moment.

    If someone were to try to be a coach on how to profit in real estate, but had never invested in real estate...and had only profited from telling others how to do it...I would not be interested.

    People want to get into online marketing (example), and use other people's money to learn. That's ok if you find enough suckers who have no clue how things work...and there doesn't seem to be a shortage these days.

    So, if you're a consultant, I want to know what you've done to create wealth?

    As a natchrl Yogah Princess, I gotta advocate takin' an active step back from evrythin' once in a while.

    Recharge yr batts ... flush out yr crap ... bend ludicrously in the moment.

    Far too much biz stuff is dominated by burnout-enhancin' DRIVE PASSION GOAL speak.

    For sure, you cain't git noplace without energy an' direction, but less'n you stahp to reflect sumtimes, you jus' gonna end up all reflex mastubbatin' megalomaniapants.

    An' bullieve Moi, this ain't a great look.

    A little trick I put in place a number of years ago, was to simply say WE vs I. We can do this that and the other, vs I can do this that and the other. This little word shift gets you from selling YOU, to selling your business.

    so how do you think you can sell a new business you've just started or a business you've been looking at for a long time to people? i think that such factors are very important whether the only purpose is to sell and make money or whether you are doing this job because you love it.

    My thoughts and add ons would be, are you positioning yourself or your business as the only logical solution to your target market's biggest pain.

    The reason you don't have clients in your business is because you are mostly marketing/selling your products and services versus positioning yourself or your business as being the only expert solution to your ideal clients problem, who are willing to pay you now to solve their problems immediately.

    Speaking about psychological separation from your business, it would be a useful thing to do and maybe help against any burnout, but as someone wrote here earlier, when you have your own business, you think of it 24 h and I think its stressful, at least it was for me when I was involved in ecommerce.

    Oh, this advice is spot on! I totally agree that you need to "detach" a bit from your business to really evaluate what works and what doesn't. When I started looking at my own project as a separate "entity," it immediately became easier to make marketing decisions and see where the strategy needed improvement. Such a useful metaphor, thanks for sharing!

    Honestly i did not treat mine as separate at first and it definitely blurred a lot of lines especially with money and time management. Setting boundaries really helped me take things more seriously

    Totally agree with this. Once I started thinking of my business as something I work for instead of something that is me, it got a lot easier to make decisions without taking everything personally.

    That's a really good point. Seeing your business as its own entity definitely helps take the pressure off and makes it easier to market without feeling too personal. It also helps you make clearer decisions because you're thinking from the business's perspective, not just your own.
