Wordpress Indexing Issues (!?!)

I started an affiliate site a couple of weeks ago and have been adding some SEO content to it... I then had it submitted to 100 directories, did social bookmarking, and even did some link building with Angela's backlinks...

still not indexed...

So i went to google webmaster tools and verified my site. I then uploaded a sitemap as well. A few hours later I checked my site. I was crawled... but it was BLOCKED by the freaking robots.txt file!!!!!!!!

I never uploaded a custom robots file... so I went to my wordpress admin for the site and under "privacy", it was defaulted to not show up in search engines!?!

Well, I have fixed the problem and ensured that my robots file is up-to-date... now I am waiting again to be crawled so I can be indexed. So if you are using wordpress for affiliate purposes, make sure you check your privacy settings.

On a side note, this is the longest i have ever waited to get indexed... perhaps it's because it is a ".info" domain name?

    oh dear, sorry to hear that you have had such troubles!

    whenever you start up a WordPress blog, make sure you check all your settings from General settings onwards...then also update individual plugin settings.

    Did you set up your WordPress permalinks properly?

    as in Settings-> Permalinks
    make sure you choose custom structure and insert this:
    /%category%/%postname%

    and then click "save changes"

    Actually, when doing a manual install it is "defaulted" to show the blog in serach engines. The checkbox "Allow my blog to appear in search engines like Google and Technorati" is checked by default when you start the WP installation.

    Most of us uncheck it at installation to make sure the site/blog isn't indexed while we tweak it... we just tend to forget to change that option back in the Privacy subpanel

    I have no idea how does it work with fantastico/automate installs because I have never done any.
