Email List Building question

Hey guys,
I have a few dollars on the internet with this concept we call IM. But i have never started building a list. I know this maybe dumb. But i am getting into it now. I have one question. I am not asking for your strategies of list building nor the size of your list. But if you don't mind could you please answer:

"how much do you make per person on your list per month? on average?"

so example: if you have 1000 people in your list are you making $1 per person? so $1000.

Thanks guys i appreciate any input here

I make about $1.20 per subscriber per month. That's an average. December is on track to be higher, but November was lower, for example. The money really is in the list.

But you can easily mess this up by slamming your list early on with hard sales pitches. Ease them into it. And always give valuable info in your messages, even the sales pitches. Build rapport first. You do that to some extent by getting them on your list in the first place, by either giving away something of value or by selling them something up front and grabbing their contact details in the process. But there's a difference between having list members who tolerate your messages and having members who can't wait to get your next email. Get them to that point where they can't wait, and you've written your own ticket.

We have around 10,000 subscribers on various niche lists and we make less than .10 cents per subscriber.

The niches are very low profit and more of a hobby than a money making endeavor, obviously :-)

I've heard you should be shooting for $1.00 per subscriber per month.

You'll get widly varying results depending on many factors such as:

    - list quality
    - list management
    - niche
    - signal to noise ratio
    - time of week/month/year
    - countless other factors

So I'll give you my latest figure - $1.30 per subscriber.

The majority of list owners is making much less than $1 per subscriber
per month. Email marketing is an art and not every list owner is an
artist. I would be happy if I could make $1 per subscriber per month
from my list, but it's less then that.

Just my term for the ratio of free useful content to sales pitch.

past list of 1000 people have been as high as $3.60

One list of 10,000 has never made me a dime directly .

a list of only 17 people makes me $735 every month. This is a group I basically ghost write a plr pack for once a month . Been thinking of starting several of these list but promised I would cut this particular niche off at 17.

List are just as profitable as you decide to make them. In my early ventures I screwed some great list up by selling to them too quickly. Others I have screwed up by giving too much away .

Find what works for your list and stick to it . I have one list I send to every day . They are receptive . You could do the same thing and lose 90% of them in a week.

I hear a lot about test...test..test . Unless you have a lot of list members I would say test but in little digestible chunks . Going all out in the wrong direction can be a bad thing .

I'm afraid I'm not going to be that helpful, it depends.

    a) On how and where you grew your list - some methods give you better quality subscribers

    b) The relationship you build with the list

    c) The niche

I built one list of over 700 subscribers in two months and only made around $70 ever!

Another of my lists (not in the money making niche) only stands at 1,800 people but brings me in over $5,000 a month consistently. This is mainly because the niche is one that consumes products (physical and information) on a regular basis and they are fanatical.

    Hope this helps.
