What are the advantages of cloaking, and are they a neccessity at times.

Which are the best cloaking links, paid or free.

    Cloaking will reduce commission theft and also get rid of your ugly affiliate link which will also increase your conversions. People are very weary of clicking on strange encrypted looking links. The easiest way to cloak your links is to do a php redirect which is totally free. Take a look at the affilorama website and do a search for cloaking affiliate links. They have a great article and video on exactly how to set it up. It's very simple and once you do it a couple of times it becomes second nature.

    What platform are you using? Wordpress? plain php?

    In any case, there are many ways to cloak links, and I haven't yet cloaked any of mine using paid services... and not sure why I would need to...

    but as far as free link cloaking is concerned...
    1. .htaccess file based cloaking: my favorite. clean, and lightweight
    2. php file w/ a meta redirect set to zero seconds.
    3. if you are on wordpress/joomla/etc. you may be able to find a plugin that allows you to manage everything from within its admin panel.

    advantages : hides affiliate links from the user, and more.

    disadvantages: some search engines 'may' penalize you in the SERPs for the use of cloaked links.

    I just use a simple php code, just save the code below in notepad and save the page as index.php and them put it into a folder name of your choice. Just replace my URL with your affiliate URL

    PS - And, that video warns you about something almost ALL other cloakers don't mention -- and if you don't know about it you can lose your ClickBank account, etc.

    For CPA, I'd highly recommend using double meta refresh on your own host. However, the drawback is that the cloaking won't work on Safari, Opera and Google Chrome browsers. This isn't that big of an issue though, as only a small percentage of people use these browsers.

    I like Ninja Link Cloaker.
    It's better to me than using a php code because it redirects your visitors to the merchant page, instead of them seeing a weird affiliate link in their navigation bar.

      Thanks for all that help.

      As ive got a couple of sites up already on wordpress, and that is the road I want to pursue, I will take a look at sridhar,s option of the wordpress plug in.
