Is one BIG list better, or a bunch of small/tiny mini-lists?

Just curious -- from your experience, if you have multiple products to offer...

Do you find having one 'big' list works better for you, or do you manage all the lists separately...? (I'm not talking about autoresponders, because I think those would work better on a mini-list type approach, but I'm talking about say new product offerings, etc... Do you 'funnel' your minilists into one big gigantic list, or do you e-mail the product offerings (burts) to each list separately, what are your reasons for either approach?)

Thanks!

Keep it balanced, don't stuff it with ALL of your new products... but you could do more than just a few...

Have a look from your point of view if you were the "costumer" how luck would your attention span hold looking at those products? And make a few people do that as well.. and then find the average and go with that,

That's what I would do, atleast.

    Cheers,
    Marek

    If I understand you correctly...

I like to manage small lists for each product. This way, I can mail them all at once if I want and mail them separately too. If I build one gigantic list, that might not be possible. So suppose you want to send an update to buyers of one product, you have to send it to all of 'em that way.

Small lists or big lists doesn't matter as long as they are well targeted.

But if you already have small lists on different niche, don't mix them up. Better to stay that way.

Personally I'd like to have small lists or sublists in big list to target the audience.

    Always segment your lists

    That would be my advice.

We have found that segmenting your lists into groups of tightly connected people results in better conversions and much more targeted promotions.

Markets can be broken down into niches

Niches can be broken down into sub-niches

Sub-niches can be broken down further again

Each time you target each group more specifically than you were before.

Thanks Jay... Do you do cross promotions with those lists? If so, I am wondering how you manage that (i.e., let's say you have 'Bob Smith' who is signed up to product list "A", but also product list B and/or C... if you mailed all of those lists, have you found he's gotten annoyed, or how have you removed duplicates/accounted for that?)

In some circumstances, we have removed the duplicates..

I do some cross promotion, but a decent autoresponder will only send one mail to each addy...

So, if the person is on 5 different lists, but with the same e-mail address, they will only get one mail

If they are on all 5 with different addy's.. they need to organise better..lol.

        Peace

        Jay

p.s. Stop all this talk about a bunch of small/tiny mini-lists... you want a bunch of BIG, targeted... mini lists

Which autoresponder do you use? I am using a custom autoresponder (and making changes as I think I need them), but trying to decide whether I should just go to a paid solution.

          Thanks,

We have accounts with all the major services... from the top of my head I can think:

Aweber, ConstantContact, iContact, GetResponse and one or two custom scripts...

            Each has it's uses

            Peace

If you spent $10,000 a year with a business, would you appreciate being communicated to the same way as if you had never spent a dime?

For each niche that I'm in, I always segment the list to each sub-category and then for each sub-category. However, for each niche, I have a master list, which everybody gets included in. I then segment the list again. I then segment the list in to buys & non-buyers.

I do it this way, so I then can talk to certain parts of my list. Too the people that are actually interested in the subject matter, because they have raised there hand to be on the list. But if I need to promote something, I do it to the master list. So everbody gets it.
