I use /%postname%.html and when I write a post, I make an adjustment to the permalink so only my keyword is shown for that blog post and not the full title.

Don't know if it's the best, but that has always worked well for me.

    I use /%postname%/

I don't use an extension, and I edit the permalink with a keyword if I can't fit in my title.

    I use /%postname%/ Also.

Although people like to keyword stuff the category tag, I prefer to not use it in the post titles.

I prefer to get my SEO stuff with Headspace2.

Some of my older sites use the ALL In One Seo Plugin, but I personally like headspace2.

I have been reading that using /%postname%/ may actually be worse in terms of site performance (and may effect your rankings per Google's new "page load time" ranking).

Because of how wordpress fetches data from the database, using just /%postname%/ makes Wordpress take more time to distinguish your post URLs from page URLs when fetching data from the database. For sites that have a lot of posts, the performance issues will be greater.

If you use something that starts with digits, for example:
/%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%/ you can alleviate the problem.

You can get an idea of what Google thinks about your site performance by checking Google's Webmaster Tools (look for the link - Labs\Site Performance).

Just remember that Google "Page speed suggestions" is accessing everything on the page (DNS lookups, image loading, etc).

I always use /%category%/%postname%/ and you can optimize the keywords on category rather than posts. Some times a long post name makes your URL looks spammy or looks complicated in user mind

I've read the same thing /%category%/%postname%/ is the best for the search engines, plus your readers can find out what other post are in that category..

YES, then you get included for your category keywords (which should be optimized) and for your post name. I also use the numeric post number on the end but that's a diff story of my own.

use /%category%/%postname%/ if your domain not your keyword e.g. xysz.com

use /%postname%/ if your domain is your keyword e.g. healthtips.com

I use a plugin called "WP no category base". It basically removes "category" slug from the links.

So instead of having permalinks like this:
      hxxp://w3.yoursite.com/category/post-name

      you have the following:
      hxxp://w3.yoursite.com/post-name

I don't know if it will effect SEO but I don't like to have a useless "category" there.

/%postname%/ - That's the structure that I am using in my sites. Lot of people suggest that is a better way to do it.
