Here is a REAL business model that has legs and can easily be monetised!

If you are looking for a genuine working business model that could naturally evolve into a profitable recurring income money spinner, then this idea might be for you.

From the outset I want to stress:

1) This is not something that I have done myself. It has been in my "ideas book" for over a year but I haven't had time to do anything with it.

2) It is not an original idea as some people are doing it already....but you can do it better with a few twists here and there.

3) It is not lifted from another site and re-posted here. It is based on a real life experience of somebody who I personally know who is doing it (to respect the persons privacy and to not let her hard work be plagiarised I won't reveal who she is publicly but I am more than willing to prove the authenticity of this to somebody like Andy Henry - or other respected long term warrior - who would be able to confirm the story and business model).

4). It was written in a hurry as I wanted to provide some information for you so that others can throw their ideas into the pot and turn it into a workable model for you. I didn't have time to completely edit it so apologies for any typing errors or grammatical mistakes.

5) I am not going to make ridiculous claims of how much money you can make from it. That is totally up you and you implement the business model.

6) I am NOT going to be turning this into a WSO or report.

The business model is to create Re-Location guides.

Every year thousands of people move house.

Due to work commitments or changes to individual circumstances people have to move location to another town, city or country.

This can be daunting, especially if you are unfamiliar with the area.

In a lot of cases, if it is for work for example, the company they work for will provide them with a relocation pack to help them get to familiar with what is on offer in their new but if this a personal move then basically you are on your own.

The friend who I got this idea from lives in a major cosmopolitan European city where thousands of people move to from all over the world every year.

She produced a thick 200+ page Relocation Guide book that she gave to all her clients who used her relocation services (She charged $70 Euros to people who didn't want to use her services but still wanted the book).

She listed important things like:
  • Where the post offices were
  • How to contact the utility companies (gas, electricity and telephone companies)
  • Where to park your car
  • The opening times of the stores, banks etc
  • Which cable and satellite TV services operated in the area
  • How to use the local transport facilities (costs, times, locations etc)
  • How much you can expect to pay taxi drivers etc.
  • Where all of the sports and leisure facilities were with opening/closing times etc)
  • Education info - kids, adults, art classes, riding classes, theatre classes, language schools etc)
  • She describes each of the major neighbourhoods and tells you how much you can expect to pay for property in each area etc.
  • She lists all of the popular and restaurants, bars and nightclubs as well as revealing hidden gems that only locals would know about.
  • There is a whole list of essential telephone numbers such as the hospitals, dentists, police, utility companies, handymen, taxi services etc.
  • And a whole A-Z of stores in the area.

As I said the spiral bound book is over 200 pages thick.
Her business model has since changed and is slightly better but I think that it can be improved......more of which later.

This idea would still work even if you lived in a smaller town or city.

For example my brother recently moved from one county in the North East of England to another. He bought a brand new house and received a welcome pack when he moved in.

As he did not know the area very well he expected all sorts of useful information telling him about the facilities in the area. It was rubbish. It contained generic information that was not very useful at all.

Imagine if he received a welcome pack that told him:
  • Where all of the local stores were
  • Where to go to get a good meal
  • How to get to the nearest hospital or doctors surgery,
  • Who were reliable mechanics, plumbers, builders etc.

By now your mind should be buzzing with ideas:

1) What if you created a web site e.g. www.yourtownorcity-relocationguide.com
The site is targeted to anybody moving to your area.

It could be a subscription site (one off fee) or you could sell a pdf. Relocation guide packed with essential information that people moving into your area really need to know.

Alternatively, you could sell exclusive advertising space to local companies wanting to be listed in your information pack or web site.

You could have a recurring income by charging them a nominal fee every month for being mentioned on your site.

2) Create an information pack with all of the essential information and then sell it to Real Estate companies and new house builders who could put their logo on the front (just like PLR).

You would be making money from them AND also selling advertising space to local companies wanting to be in the guide.

Other suggestions:

Create a site for a whole county or area and then divide it up into specific areas and franchise them out.

Add videos to your site of main streets and neighbourhoods so that people moving in can get a feel for the area and know what kind of place it is even if they live thousands of miles away.

I will add more ideas later.

Hope this inspires some of you.

Gary

Great idea, Gary. I wonder how many Warriors will implement this in their hometown?

      I wonder too.

I am guessing not many as it requires a bit extra work than some of the other business models, however this one really will work and reward you for the hard work you put in.

I like it because it is an honest business model and provides real value to the person using it.

This is a good idea. I almost did this when I moved to where I currently live in the UK, and almost did it when I lived in Singapore. almost...

My sister moves a lot too and she has done some things which would make great supplements to this model (how to choose a maid, find good schools etc..)

        Thanks for sharing.
        Thanks Andy.

        Glad you like it.

I think that the thread would have benefited with a more exciting title but I deliberately understated it to avoid some of the unsubstantiated claims that some people have been making lately about certain business models.

The singapore relocation guide that you considered would be perfect for any ex-pats moving out there.

Like you, I was going to do this but I am concentrating my current online business at the moment.

However, if I was looking for a profitable business model this would be one that I would choose as it can take off in so many directions and has the potential to grow.

    Thanks for sharing the idea!

This is a related franchise in the US: Our Town America Franchise Opportunity - New Movers Business Franchise Each territory costs $35k and covers (approximately) 2000 new movers/month. Another related company is Welcome Wagon - New Homeowner Direct Mail Marketing that hits home

When we moved the Welcome Wagon packet was worthless. I see they're doing some online coupons but I think there's a lot of room for improvement. I did a few mindmaps and projections a while ago for a related venture, you've inspired me to go back and look at them again.

The Welcome wagon is a great site and something like that could add value to the Relocation Guide model.

As you said, there is a lot of room for improvement and that is the case on a lot of the relocation sites.

I think that anybody entering this market could do a far superior job and clean up in any area they choose.

Thanks for your input and sharing the links

This is a really good idea. I live in a college town currently that of course has an ever changing population. That is an influx of 6,000-9,000 students every year. That isn't even counting regular people who move into the area. This would work for someone else who lives in a similar area to mines.
With college towns you would need to adapt the business model to suit the student audience....but that is a good thing

If a town or city has a big student base you could set a relocation site up for them as well as one for the homebuyers or professionals.

      Double your profits!!
