How Does Pinging Work?

Hey,

So my question is how does pinging work exactly?

Is it my website sending a ping
Or
Is it the ping site sending a ping to my site

example:
1) I go to pingomatic and ping my site

2) My wp blog has a ping list and.....?

Your blog has the capability of pinging automatically every time you post so it is not necessary to go to pingomatic to ping. Here's what I do. I go to pingler.com and copy the list of ping sites. It's pretty comprehensive. Then in your Wordpress settings under "Writing" paste all those sites in the part at the bottom that says Update Services. Your blog will then send the ping to all those sites every time you post.

Thank your for the tip, but that was not my question.

I want to know who is sending the ping.

The terms "my site" and "the ping site" aren't enough information for us to figure out what the hell you're doing.

But a ping is a message that says "there is a new post at this URL."

So if you think about it a little bit, you can probably figure out who sends it and where they send it.
