Can someone explain to me how traffic exchanges work? Where do I sign up? What is Traffic Swarm?

I feel like this is a really important thing to be doing, but I am a little confused about how it works.

Thanks in advance!

    Hi Lauren,

Traffic exchanges work by viewing a certain number of sites in exchange for views back to yours. Normally, you will have to view two or three sites to get one view back.

In general, traffic exchanges are not the ideal way to get traffic.

For one thing, everybody is doing the same thing. Clicking as fast as they can to get more credits for themselves.

There are exceptions, though. So, you need to be sure you're promoting the things that appeal to traffic exchange users. Get their attention. Make it quick. Get them on a list so you can market to them when they aren't in "exchange" mode.

I use one traffic exchange that does quite well for me, and has enough bonuses to make it a better than average return.

As a side note, you can also buy credits so you don't have to surf for endless hours to get visitors to your site. BUT, I would suggest trying any exchange for free first, to make sure you offer resonates with its users.

They can work, but only if you know how.

    All the best,
    Michael

      Hi,

Yes... Traffic Exchanges are sites that you view other people's pages
in exchange for them viewing yours.

Although not the best way to get (targeted) traffic they
can still give you some exposure.

TrafficSwarm work in a way that you create a text ad and view
others text ads and when clicked goes to your site.

To use them effectively is a whole different story. With Traffic
Exchanges squeege/splash pages work most effectively.
(or giving away free reports as an example)

      All the best,
      Jamie

      You aren't entirely wrong.

Traffic exchanges can be a HUGE waste of time.

As mentioned earlier, they can be a great tool for those that are in the right niche, and know how to use traffic exchanges the right way.

      All the best,

I think a lot of people seem to miss the main point behind a Traffic Exchange. As Michael noted everyone is clicking as fast as they can to earn credits in order to promote their own site. Yet here is one thing I say about a Traffic Exchange, they create site BRANDING. What does this mean? Simple, studies have shown that people need to be exposed to an Ad numerous times before a potential customer can identify it. For example, how many times did we all see the Pillsbury Doughboy before we were able to pinpoint it was the mascot for the baked goods. Or how many times did we have to hear him say "woo hoo" when his tummy was pressed before it hit us..."oh yeah, that's the fluffy dough those are the fluffy cakes, muffins, etc." Well that is what a Traffic Exchange does for your site, more than increasing traffic, it Brands your site. This is due to the amount of times it is rotated in the surf page. And as Michael said, I recommend that if you are going to join one, join a free traffic exchange and test it out. There are many out there.

I was just about to type this reply... you beat me to it

Every time this comes up the hairs on the back of my neck bristle...

If your in the IM space... IE selling marketing tools or products to the IM crowd Traffic exchanges can put a whole lot of people on your mailing list.

Trying to sell to them while they are surfing is a mistake, use TE's as a list building lead generation tool and they can quickly build you a list, and a list that buys

Currently TE's put 80 to 100 people a day on my list, just by using splash pages and squeeze pages. As long as you realise that they are soley for lead generation its a slam dunk

      Robert

PS: If your really smart you wont surf them either, you should buy the credits and have your squeeze page/splash page rotate in them 24/7. Dont use to many either 3 to 5 are enough... to get started anyway

        Hi Robert,

You are spot on with the body of your post. It's all about knowing how to use them, and using them for the right stuff.

There is only one small part where we aren't in 100% agreement, but it's about 75%.

I would suggest not buying the traffic until you are somewhat familiar with the exchange, and seeing what your results are. Use the exchange to see what sites are being heavily promoted, and get a feel for its "personality".

After that, go ahead and buy your traffic, otherwise you could be spending a lot of time that could be better invested in other aspects of your business.

Also, I would recommend using traffic exchanges as only a part of your traffic strategy.

        All the best,
        Michael

Naturally Traffic exchanges as with any other marketing activity should be a part of a larger promotional package.

I've had this conversation recently with Robert, and a big advantage of traffic exchanges, which I think a lot of people miss is keeping abreast of current marketing trends. Just by surfing a few pages of my own exchange along with some other high flying ones, I could easily keep abreast of what the current trends and 'hot products' in the view of the users was....

I think this is a most under rated aspect of traffic exchanges. Thousands of clients all in one space, a great place to do market research and consumer research.

Remember also there is a SPECIAL TYPE of marketer that uses Traffic Exchanges (making at least 90% of users) - these are not usually the highest flying IM'ers but ones that are relativity new or consider themselves students of IM and that really have ambition to Venture to the Top of the business.... use that knowledge to your advantage in marketing on TE's

As Michael and Robert have indicated, it's vital that you understand the best way to use Traffic Exchanges if you wish to profit from them.

This sort of traffic isn't suitable for making an immediate sale but is well suited to enticing onto an email list so that you can approach them a number of times.

Although they are mainly internet marketers using these exchanges, and you need to keep in mind WHY they are there, a number of the exchanges also try to identify other interests of visitors. Traffic Swarm is one of these.

There are a lot of articles on traffic exchanges and other forms of low cost and free traffic methods, as well as a list of popular exchanges, to be found here:

How much hits it requires for 80 - 100 people?

I think it would depend on the product you are trying to get traffic for whether or not traffic exchanges are worth the time. Of course it's always better to target your audience and traffic exchanges aren 't made to do that.

Although Traffic Swarm claims to be targeted and have an anti-cheat program. I can't say I've ever heard of anyone having good luck getting sales using Traffic Swarm and would love to hear if someone has.

what I do know is when you sign up you will be clicking around to get traffic for hours or else end up paying for credits

in my opinion, the problem with the Traffic Swarm system is that all the members have their own website they are trying to promote. These people are not shoppers in my opinion ... which is actually how I feel about all traffic exchanges

I just posted my opinion about traffic exchanges and I did say it depends on the product, you must have a product that interests the "Internet marketing niche" right? otherwise I think getting that many sign ups a day from traffic exchanges would be tough ... congrats to you for doing so well

Not talking about Traffic Swarm imparticular but all Internet Marketers are encouraged to have their own sites. Good TE's try to educate their users to have their own squeeze pages and to build their own lists.

I have multiple sites, but that has never stopped me buying stuff from my own TE! I'm as much as a sucker for an impulse buy as anyone else. Almost everyone can be sold too, you just have to find the right way...

Traffic exchanges are great for their intended purpose. but I checked them out for a very long time and could not figure out why if there are so many people or eyes viewing these things, why do the same ads show over and over again. I, being king of the OCD crowd, calculated that many of these traffic exchanges exists for the sole purpose of getting signups for the OWNER.

Very few individuals can afford to spend the kind of money or the kind of time it takes to get signups from these. Traffic swarm is a little more effective but once you start adding up the money to get this automated, the costs becomes prohibitive.

what they do is give the person a sense of actually doing something for their business so the process is kind of busy work without actually getting any real results.

I used TEs years ago, when I was just starting. Obvioulsy, I made no money and got no subscribers. But it's not because of the TEs, I was just a newbie and knew nothing about IM.

However, I remember that I had a "bulk email". I used that email to subscribe to other people's list and download their gifts. However, I never read the emails that I got from them. That idea was just download the gifts without giving them my real email address.

So I never considered to build my list with TEs, simply because I think that people there would do the same thing I did when I was just starting. However, now I saw that some guys are building profitable lists with TEs, so I would like to ask them how they deal with this problem. I know that Aweber allows us to see the subscribers who have never opened an email from us. Are you using this feature to keep only the good subscribers?

    Thank you,
    William
