Issues With A Logo/KompoZer

Hey Fellow Warriors!

I am in the process of creating my first landing page through KompoZer and so far so good. However, I downloaded a logo from a site that I would like to incoporate at the top left of my site without it looking glued on there. Like, I would like to keep the background if I can, and just place the logo over top of the one that is already there, but I'm not sure how to do this. Everytime I try, my logo has its own white box around it, and it just doesn't look good with the structure of my site. Any suggestions on what I can do here? Some programs I may be able to fix this with?

Also, the logo came with its own little symbol at the top, then underneath of that it says Company Name, then under that it says Nice Slogan Goes Here - any ideas on how I can change the words to what I want as well as keeping the actual font, because it matches the logo?? Thanks in advance for any help on this!

I would probably load it into a graphics editor (I like PhotoShop, but Gimp is free) and fill the back ground with the matching color of the original background.

If the original background is a pattern of some sort, you could screen grab it and layer it into your background.

You can accomplish both with Firefox plugins, Colorzilla to capture the background color, and capture fox to do screen grabs.

Once your background layer is in place, you can erase the default text and add your own. You may need to experiment with the font list though to find a matching font.

That's a quick & dirty run down anyway... hope it helps.

Hey thanks for the response I actually have both gimp and adobe photoshop elements 6.0 However, with both of these, I'm not sure how to do the background capture?? Is it possible that I could bother someone to help explain this...with either or of those two software^^ doesn't much matter to me, whichever is easiest.

Is this a PSD file? If not, you might have some problems editing the text unless the background is a solid color. If it is a PSD or xcf (GIMP) it's probably in editable layers. In GIMP hit ctrl + l

and you should be able to edit the layers.

The logo is a .jpg file...so I have no hope? haha

The only reason I need to blend it into the background is because the ways that I've tried would make my website look half-fast. Because when I put my logo onto my website there is a white box around the main logo itself, and that cuts into the top half of a plain blue border. It just doesn't look right.

          Hmm..??

In GIMP since it's a white background you could try using the Fuzzy select tool, then click on the image. And go to Select + Invert. And Edit + Cut and try and paste it or create a transparent background for it. Sometimes it works depending on the image.

The text if it's not on a solid background though you can change it but it'll be noticeable, unless you can use the rectangle or elipse tool and make kind of a different color box for it.

I haven't done much with PhotoShop Elements, but if it will let you save it as a psd or a png file, you can create layers. I've worked with jpg files many times to get a logo working, so no I wouldn't say that you're out of luck at all.

One thing you could try is to use the magic wand tool and select the logo and copy / paste it into the new layer. Then turn off the original layer. Next, you could add another layer to insert a matching background (color or pattern, whatever the case may be), or simply leave your new logo layer transparent and save it as a .png or .gif file using the "Save for Web and Devices" option.

Internet Explorer doesn't play well with transparent png files, but often you can get away with saving it as an 8-bit png, or as a .gif which works with any browser for transparency.

In many cases, I prefer matching the background because you get a better color resolution with jpg & png files than with 8-bit png and gif. - my 3.7 cents.
