Eye Candy Banner Ads?

I recently saw an ad for a game site with a women inviting you to feel free to play. I did a little research and found that it was a gaming site and had nothing to do with the woman. I am sure many of you know which site I am referring to. Apparently this Eye Candy Banner Ad is converting extremely well.

Banners don't always seem to convert that well but I am curious if anyone has found some banners that convert really well just because they are eye popping or unusual?

I would like to see some results here myself. Banner advertising is one of the next ventures that i am going to get into as soon as i have the time to move on.

I know there are a couple new marketing programs that are build 100% for banner ad training but I have not picked any up yet. I would like to hear about some results.

With banners, I would go for something that blends in. People have some major banner-blindness, but if you spend extra time and hand-pick a few sites, then create banners for those sites which blend in and make it look like actual content - you'll see your CTR's go sky-high

Blend in too much and the visitor misses your banner.

I think we have to strive for a balance.

Shaun, that COULD be the case...but only if the copy on your banner sucks.

You have to simply make sure that whatever copy you have on the banner is eye-catching in itself.

In orders words, don't make the GRAPHICS eye-candy...make the COPY eye-candy

Blending is a great tip, and also one thing I do know is that banners that are towards the center of the content on the webpage have the best results. (not from my personal testing, but from what info I have read in the past)

The Text on the banner read: "Natural One Way Links To Your Website" - I changed it to "SEXY One Way Links To You Website".

Just by changing that one word, my CTR increased about 300%; Incredible! I was getting more orders than I could handle.

Shoot, Now I'm going to add a nice female image to the banner; lets see what happens... lmao!

I gotta say....I clicked through the Evony banner....
And played the game a little...never saw that pretty lil lady in the banner again though.
I think it's smart. Just like the t-shirt design companies. Would they really have that many hits and sales without those pretty ladies and just had some shirt laying flat as a banner? Further some of those models are "semi-famous" (hard to believe I know). Check out an interview with the Snorg girl: (cant post links, just google: t shirt model interview...it's the first one that pops up)

Just gotta be relevant in some way...girl in bikini for a finance blog might not work but a hot secretary might. Hot secretary might not work for a gaming site but a cosplay girl might.

These results are several years old, so they likely don't mean much, but I had a couple of basic 468x60 banners with CTRs in the 1-5% range depending on the site they were on.

The "eye candy" was a cropped shot of a model with very striking eyes, open wide, cropped from the eyebrow to the bridge of the nose. The copy was a simple teaser - "What could she be looking at?" with red 'click here to look' button.

I rotated a series of these banners with different models, but the copy never changed.

I believe the question you are asking is if the more flashy the more "eye candy" they provide the better they convert. I would have to say yes, you can't look at any advertising medium that doesn't apply the theory that men and women are attracted to this type of advertising and it converts really well. Try a test out yourself, make two banner ads promoting the same product, have one set up in the startard IM way and do another with "eye candy" and see which one converts best.

So actually non of you guys have personal experience what converts the best when it comes to banners?

I am testing a 125x125 banner on a gaming site and so far the CTR is 0.05% - disaster I say.

I could use some help over here if somebody has time and patience to look at my banner.

I don't know the poor converting part is due the bad banner or just because it doesn't stand out from 5 other banners that are next to it making it look invisible to the user.

Any warriors who have experience could shred some light on the subject
