Learning to build a list is a good idea, but I would start with the basics.

Find your product and niche before you do anything else. Once you have a way to bring people to your niche then it is necessary to build your list.

    Just my opinion

Starting out building a list will be the most beneficial way to be profitable in the long-run.

I would compile a free short report with great content(could be a compilation of some articles you have written are a revised PLR) and just drive tons of traffic.

Starting out by building a list is the best thing you can do. I didn't start building a list until 2 years into IM. You'll be amazed on how much money you can make on a good list.

Ask any online marketer that makes $xxx, xxx a year and they'll usually tell you the same thing, build a list and then create a product...

I have to agree with Reynold, find your niche then your list. In otherwords who or what specific topic area are you going to concentrate your efforts in. Know who your are targeting.
