Help!! 404 error on new site- but it EXISTS!

I just found out that a mini site i was working on, link-built, and for which i wrote numerous articles is a "404 page not found" error!!! ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Google can't even see it, so my links to it are useless.

404= NEVER BE INDEXED BY GOOGLE!!??

anybody help? any way around this?

    404 simply means nothing exists at that particular URL. If you could post the URL, we could look at it and give you more feedback.

    That URL comes up just fine for me. You may need to clear your browser's cache.

      me, too- so why does Google tell me it's a 404? tried to verify the site via webmaster tools-
      OutcomeVerification failed. Your site's home page returns a status of 404 (Not found) instead of 200 (OK).

        Any ideas as to why Google doesn't see it? I had ezine tell me it may be an invalid link as well- what's going on?

          well, I guess whatever the reason, I should redirect my stacked links to a new hub- because a 404 result from Google means my site is invisible, right? i'm soooooooooooooooo mad!!

          Google DOES see it. My guess is that you are not typing it with the same uppercase & lowercase characters when you're checking. Does it come up for you when you click on your sig link? If not, try a different browser to see if you have the same problem.

    I have had this happen, and it will always come down to the tinyest of mistakes in the URL. Check that you don't have any capitals in the file that are not in the URL. The web doesn't recognize capitals, but I have used them in the file name by mistake.

    This has always been my problem when this happens. Check to see if it is yours too. Copy and paste the file name and the URL name one below the other in a Notepad file or something to see if there is ANY difference at all.

    Your link worked for me too.

    I suggest changing all your urls to lower case, especially if you are using a linux/unix based system, or if you someday might move to one. Having all one case can be a huge pain if one part of your website is case sensitive, and another part is not.

    File names in Unix/Linux are case sensitive, so if you mistype the case, your file won't be found

    Looks like google sees it to me:
    Google

    I just did a search for that url with quotes around it - came up fine.

    Links either are valid or they are not valid. There is no "may". So go to your ezine article and if you linked it, click on the link and see if it works.

    If you did something like switch providers, or the site is new, it might take a day or so for the changes to get picked up by everyone, but more likely if it fails there was probably a typo or you included a period in the url or something like that.

    So, test your link in your article and let us know what happens.

      hi, I followed the link you posted in- and the only site i see in the results is an article i wrote with the link to the site- but not the site itself

    I guess I should have checked the link myself too - the google search come up with your article, and the article link works.

    However, a google search only turns up that article, and not the webpage itself.

    So, have you used the google webmaster tools and told it about your site? New pages can take a week or so I think, before they get indexed.

    How old is this page?

      l23bc - did you click on the link that google found? I think that link goes to the article that has the link, and not the actual webpage.

      I'd start with my isp and see if their customer service rep can view the site. If they can see it you may have a corrupt file on your own computer that is stopping the site. If that's the case, might start with a ping and tracert to see if the site is going where it's supposed to go from your computer.

      I had that happen a couple years ago - a real pain to solve. But once I found the bad file and deleted it, all was well.

    It's not a 404--but Google hasn't spidered the page.

    Check this:

    site:http://www.k12lessonplans.com/I_teach_English_in_Italy - Google Search

    The site has been spidered but not that page. When you check incoming links for the page it also has zero:

    link:http://www.k12lessonplans.com/I_teach_English_in_Italy - Google Search

    When people search just for the page URL as a string it does come up. Makes me wonder if some of your incoming links are nofollow and Google hasn't spidered the page yet.
