How would you market a site online similar to Amazon.com??

The business I'm thinking of getting involved in is a home consumer product based site. (Things such as paper towels, house cleaners, health supplements/vitamins, etc..) The products are supplied by a third party company and they take care of the packaging and shipping.

I make money on the wholesale to retail markup and I get bonuses if I sponsor other entrepreneurs who want to start the same business.

What would be the best way to market the site online?

Same as any other e-commerce site:

SEO, PPC (if you want to pay for it), Social Media, Related Forums/Communities etc etc

Sounds like an online version of Betterware

There are MANY ways to market online. One of the most frequently used is email marketing and its derivatives. Email marketing is the online version of direct marketing; via email instead of snail mail. Among some of the most commonly used formats are Solo Ads, Contact Solo Ads, and newsletters. Now, although these are the ones most frequently used you can also find Banner Ads, Text Link Ads, Classifieds and even Traffic Exchanges which help create site branding. As far as the email marketing is concerned you must be certain the emails are targeted and the people who are receiving your emails signed up for it!!!

But, I think you will benefit tremendously from the use of social network sites. Because what you are offering is both a retail service and AN affiliate program, you may find people there willing to hear what you have to offer.

Again, there are MANY ways to market your business, you just have to do some trial and error and figure out what is going to work best for your particular business!!!

If you want to advertise it for free, social media should work
    well for this.

Paid advertising is best though. Adwords, yahoo, msn, miva, etc...

Honestly...what I would do is write a very nice 30 page E-book on your NEW business and allow re-branding to give it a ULTRA viral effect with a GREAT incentive to give to your readers...then give it away for FREE everywhere...I would also spen alittle cash so you can get it advertised quickly...that will ALWAYS get you traffic.

Almost sounds like Amway. The question you need to answer is, what makes you unique? Price? Service? Shipping? Quality? Once you identify what will make opeople choose you over millions of similar merchants, you run with that distinction and build your marketing around that. Good luck!

I think that you can market in a lot of ways... Some of the more common ways people would say would be PPC, SEO...articles..etc...

But I think you can also post ads about your business...perhaps local online newspapers... Facebook is also a great place to advertise.

Also the regular ads in newspapers...etc... Where I live we have something called Money Mailer which is this coupon book that comes out which is filled with new businesses offering discounts on their products or grand openning sales. It doesn't cost too much to have the advertisement. I believe about $50 - 100 and it goes out in your county. I would look into something like that for where you live or advertise on other websites that deal with health related topics.
