Is it possible to use Google Website Optimizer on Wordpress Theme files?

I know that there is a Google Website Optimizer plugin for Wordpress that works on posts and pages, but what I'm trying to do is use it to alter the way the wordpress theme displays in an area - specifically the eBook lead gen area.

I'm trying to test the header text, sub heading text and color of the arrow; however, it doesn't work when I put the tracking code in the header.php file and the bottom code in the footer.php file because I need to use the actual script code on another theme .php file.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can accomplish this? I offer free high fives.

    One bump then I'll just give up (I already spent a bunch of time researching online how to try and do this to no avail).

      Hey Chris, if I get what you're trying to do, all you need is the "Google Website Optimizer for Wordpress" plugin. Just install it like any other plugin through your WP admin area, and it will add a box on each page/post that you can activate and put in the appropriate codes so you can split test with Web Optimizer.

        Hey Tyson,

        I've tried using that plugin but it only lets me change what is in my post.

        What I'm trying to do is be able to change elements on my actual wordpress theme.

        i.e. see my blog:

        Make Money on the Internet

        On the upper right hand corner I have an email opt in box and I was going to test out the arrow color choice along with different types of text to see which converted best.

    You might be able to do this by hand by putting the code options in the sidebar. I can't remember which option it is at Optimizer but it's the one that lets you change elements of the page rather than creating a copy of it.

      Ohh I see what you're trying to do. I don't think website optimizer can do this for you, since it requires two different pages. There may be a plugin out there that split tests code on a page, but I'm not sure what it would be.

        No worries. Yah I actually tried using the plugin as well and it still causes errors (I think it's because of how the theme files are all called together to form a page)...
