Wordpress Posts or Pages?

I am today setting up my first affiliate site using Wordpress and am wondering if I should use pages or posts.

My niche is a specific piece of jewelry, and will be using Amazon and Commission Junction for my links.

Any advice, warriors?

That all depends. But from where I stand, the WordPress page looks like the landing pages of Affiliates. Of course, according to others' points, all web pages can be regarded as Affiliate landing pages. If you can try your best to optimize them, then you will get a good result.

I would use an optimised page to build content for each keyword phrase.

Then use the posts for building relationships and capturing names for your auto-responder.

        Cluffy,

Are you saying use a separate page for each keyword phrase?

I agree with this post. Create seperate pages with unique content aimed at specific keywords. I would also create posts ( ala a blog ) to build relationship with your visitors.

Depending on how exactly you wanted it to work, the main front page ( by default ) is the "blog" ( posts ), but you can also set it up so that a static "page" becomes the main page and the "blog" ( where the posts all show up ) will be a different "inner" page of the site. Switching it this way would allow you to have a welcome or sales type page as your main page that didnt change or update with each new post you made.

If you need any help feel free to Pm me. Im no wp guru but have made and keep several Wp sites and enjoy tinkering with them.

This is exactly what I want to do.

But I'm having trouble with the theme I've chosen and am going crazy! It was one of the featured themes in Wordpress, but am wondering if maybe the default one would have been easier for me to navigate, especially since I'm doing this for the first time.

          Will PM you, Ernie.

    Thanks, everyone.

I think I'm getting the picture.

But here's another concern: I've read that you can only use an RSS feed if you are using posts.

    Is this true?

Timmy, I appreciate the above link, although right now as a beginner perhaps it was more info than I can handle right now, especially since I've never even used RSS before.

At this point, I'm just trying to figure out if there is a way I could use the Wordpress default with static pages, or do a combination of pages and posts.

Oh, dang it, I afraid I'm not even sure what I want to do!

Yep! After years of working with clients that wanted a WP-based site - I can assure you: you are not alone

The majority of people starting out with WP (plus adventuring into a new territory in IM)... have no idea how to use WP in their advantage.

I used to send back the future WP-site owners to the drawing table and asking them to - literally - draw on a paper the structure of their website. You know, like those organizational charts...

So, I would say you are approaching this from the wrong end, starting from WP. You should have a clear picture of the site structure and the WP pieces will fall in place

Both posts and Pages are "entries" in the WP database, just different types and they behave differently - if you want to be technical...
