Going to start building a list this week, what tips can you give me

Hello Warriors,

I am finally getting around to starting a list, my plan this week is to

1. sign up to aweber
2. find a opt in box plugin for my wordpress blog
3. create a freebie to giveaway (pdf, videos etc)
3. write an autoresponder sequence

This is my basic plan. What i am asking is...

If you have had success with email marketing what tips can you give me / what do you think i should know.

off the top off my head.

- is the double opt in necessary
- what should my mailing frequency be

    Next you really need visitors to your blog.
    There are many tutorials regarding Social Marketing and other ways
    to get traffic.

    I believe there are many opinions regarding double opt-in,
    but the majority seem to agree that it is the
    best way to avoid being accused of spamming.

    This is just what I recommend, I am not a Guru LOL.

      1. You know how to drive targeted traffic to your squeeze page, right?

      2. You have a lot of quality articles, reports and ebooks that you can
      give them for free, in order to show them that you are a serious guy,
      haven't you?

      3. You are not planning to bombard them with cut&paste affiliate emails,
      are you?

      Not a guru here either, just learning as I go.

      I actually just started building my list yesterday and I've gotten 10 subscribers so far.

      Here is what I've done.
      1. Sign up for aweber.
      2. Put the form on my blog.
      3. Create a contest to give away some really cool prizes if people sign up for your list.
      4. Drive traffic through twitter, facebook, and blogs by commenting on posts.
      5. Ask the subscribers to write a blog post about your contest and you'll throw something extra in for them.

      People love free stuff! Give it a try or let me know if you need any help promoting your site. I'd be happy to send a tweet or stop by and check it out.

    You also want to start thinking about your target market.
    And building a relationship with them.

    Its better to go for double opt-in to avoid spam accusations. Some send emails everyday, some 3-4 a week, its totally up to you.

    Also if you have a product to sell, you may want to use it as a one time offer after people sign up to your list.

    Definitely set up a one time offer once you are happy with the conversions, it's basically free money as your list grows
