Is Guest Writing A Worthwhile Practise?

Hey Guys,

I have been emailing out to various sites in my market and guest posting articles on the better ones. They take alot of time to write and they also take alot of time to edit. I have no problem gathering contacts to post for though. Is this worth my time in terms of expossure and google juice?

What do you guys do in a big market to get expossure in that community?

I think so, if the site has a high PR and if you can guest post of a high traffic blog that will already send you visitors then yeah. But you know I think posting on sites site Ezinearticles and other directories is probably a better way to spend an hour because 1 article can be submitted to a variety of places.

I would love to hear your results though.

You cannot compare writing for Ezine vs a respectable blog with traffic and a following.

Guest posting on credible, related (to your niche) blogs is very powerful. Leo Babauta built a 150,000 subscriber blog by writing a heap of guest articles on influential blogs within a short space of time, which gave him huge momentum. His great writing then carried the momentum to great success.

Ok cool, it seems then that there is two main uses for guest writing then, credibility and SEO. Does anyone in this thread guest post on a regular basis? What effect does it have on your sites traffic and rankings? Also how many would you usually post on a weekly basis to build that cred and ranking in a large market?

I write for a client in an offline niche, and part of his strategy is to find related blogs with a page rank of 3 or higher. I write a unique guest article for them on a topic of their choice, and I have a bio included at the top or the bottom of the article. In that bio, there is a hyperlink to my client's site and the anchor text is the keywords he is targeting. It's working very well.

I think everything is directly proportional to the amount of traffic that the guest blog has. That traffic is directly related to the percentage of click eventually going out to your website / blog / squeeze page from your guest article.
But it's also in the approach you see, many believe the act of guest posting ends when your article goes live. I believe it just begins because there are so many options to drive traffic AFTER your article went live like social bookmarking.
