If the research is done right around a particular product, then you probably will make some money. It has to be obviously something the people want and it would be helpful if it is hot as well.

If you view the source code of an Amazon aStore you'll see that it's all indecipherable code. This is what the search engine spiders will see too - the content generated by the code is only visible to the person reading the page. You would have to add lots of supporting content and other search engine optimized page elements in order for the bots to find anything substantial in the way of keywords. It does not make a blind bit of difference how desirable the product is if the search engines don't know it's there and so can't point anyone to it.

Also, you can't really do that much with them visually. Yes, you can edit the CSS but only within limits unless you're a CSS expert with a bunch of tricks up your sleeve. By the time you've finished you'll still have something that looks like just another aStore, even if it doesn't look like a minor variant of thousands of others out there.

Most are unappealing to surfers and off the radar to search engines. With enough effort you can do something about that on both counts, but I think you're probably better off putting the hours into something more flexible. In my experience, aStores can sometimes add a little extra to a site's revenue if integrated into something more substantial, but I wouldn't expect much from a project that focused entirely on one.
