Demand for Personal Finance Articles?

Hi - I've considered dabbling in the ghost writing field, but I would prefer writing in my field of expertise as opposed to taking random requests.

I realize this significantly reduces the amount of business I will be able to drive, but I will be able to write thorough articles quickly and possibly charge a bit more for longer more technical articles.

I'm interested in finding out from other ghostwriters - is this flogging a dead horse? Is one niche too narrow? (Even though it's the evergreen personal finance niche).

How about the rest of you? Are there any personal finance niche promoters hanging out here? Do you write your own content or buy it?

***Please note - this is not a business offering - I'm just looking to gather some information***

Thanks Warriors for any info you can provide.

    Hi Christine,

It's funny, how I was searching for personal finance articles when you popped up from nowhere. Anyhow, if you look at ghostwriting as an online business, not just a hobby where you'd make a few bucks here and there, then I guess you can consider ghostwriting specializing in personal finance articles would be some form of niche business for yourself.

However, imo, I would try to capture as much business as possible by NOT limiting myself to one niche. After all, to be a ghostwriter, I'd assume you need to have a certain degree of English and writing proficiency, so why not make full use of that?

Now, I see that your post stated very clearly, that this is not a business offering, however I'm "desperate" to have someone experienced to do some articles in the personal finance for a project, a WSO really, that I'm putting together sometime soon.

Do PM me, let me know what kind of areas you can cover within the personal finance niche and see if we can work anything out.

    Best Regards

    Hi Christine,

My opinion, for what it's worth, is that you may be restricting yourself a little bit too much unless you target higher paying clients.

I don't know which country you're in but here in the U.K. virtually every aspect of personal finance is highly regulated and licenced. If the situation is the same where you are it would mean that with your expertise in the market you could contact (say) insurance or pension specialists and offer to maintain a blog for them. Once they know that you have a solid knowledge of the subject you could work out a contract to write once or twice per week on their particular area of business.

I'll PM you an idea I've just had for potentially building a large and profitable offline business in this field :-)

    it depends on your goals.

anytime can move into a niche and somewhat dominate or at least gain a good size circle of influence, you can charge more for your expertise.

when writing about random topics its hard to demand and extra money for you vast knowledge on a subject like you can if can gain a following in a specific niche.

usually, marketing to any niche is easier, but with ghostwriting, by definition you will not be gaining a following or additional credibility as an authority as time goes on.

so you are really going to be relying on your article content and quality to help you make a foothold in the niche.

i would think it can be done, but you will probably find more success early on with a broader range of topics.
