Clickbank or Own Affiliate Program?

Hi Guys,

I'm going to launch an affiliate program soon for my new product.

Can you please give me advice over whether to launch my own program or use Clickbank?

Many Thanks,
Kenneth

I think it's better to personalize your affiliate program for branding purposes.

If you are looking to attract a lot of affiliates then you are better of using clickbank because of their reputation and they help with things like paying affiliates and sending tax forms.

Having your own program is good because you can remove affiliates you don't like which you cannot do with clickbank and refunds and fees might be less expensive when you use your own program. It is also good for branding. It is really depends on what you want

    Cheers

I don't like Clickbank, way too restrictive on what you do and their fees are high.

Shareasale, Clixgalore are other affordable options if you do your own payment processing. I have programs with hundreds of active affiliates on both networks.

This was really helpful. I'm in same boat as Kenneth and posted the same question on another forum just hours ago. The answers here were instructive.

      In answer to your question......

Steer well clear of ClickBank, unless you want stacks of un justified refunds.

I've sold millions of dollars worth of products through Clickbank, I love them.

They are NOT perfect but I personally recommend them above ANY other option.

So Amazon.com should stop selling direct and running their own affiliate program, and instead set up a Clickbank page for every product? :p

Clickbank's OK for some uses, but not for all. And if you were really selling millions of dollars worth of any product through ClickBank, you gave away at least $50,000 per million in processing fees you wouldn't have paid with your own merchant account or even PayPal at merchant rates.

This is the main reason why I chose ClickBank.

They are a well known and trusted.

Affiliates know they will get paid. Like a clockwork if I may add.
Twice a month, no ifs, no buts.

With some other networks where they merely track the sales/commissions, the vendor utilizing the platform is responsible to pay the affiliates. Sometimes, the vendor may forget to pay. It has happened to me.

The "high" fees that clickbank charges are reasonable given the fact that they manage all affiliate payment for you.

Oh, another thing about Clickbank is that they are "real people" with heart. I say this because back in 2002, Malaysians were banned from signing up. I really wanted to sign-up so I emailed them, called them, and actually talked with the CEO then (Steve Rouses).
who finally allowed me to setup an account with them.

Even today, despite their growth and popularity, they still take time to reply my emails.

Which other company would do this? 2 years ago, my paypal account was frozen because I access it via a US-based VPN - I called them numerous times but each time, I was routed to some 'service' agent based in China (base on the accent) and I was given the same canned mesg each time.

Anyway, consider the pros and cons and have fun :-)

              cheers,
              Adrian

It greatly depends on what your plans are. You've got some solid advise here so all you have to do is decide what best suits your needs. If it's gonna be a mass appeal product and you'll want to get as much affiliate as possible then CB can help out a great deal. If you're going to work with a more closed group of partners (personally approach them) then you might want to consider an in-house solution for the flexibility, etc. Another thing is how you'll sell your product. You can't do upsells very well in CB. And so on... just think about it and see the pros and cons.
