Hello there,Is it worth investing in Thesis, and if so, what are the advantages, or what are the alternatives, Regards, Mick.

Well, the novelty has worn off some and there are quite a few copy cats around now where much of the functionality has been duplicated. But it really is a nice template, and if you like it, you should support them.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

If you're a "code" type of designer, Thesis is a
solid choice. I really like it. It's a blank canvas
theme which you either leave as it is, or add to
as you please--according to your ability.

If you're a more visual-designer type, you should
check out Headway theme. It's unmatched in how
far you can take a theme without touching a single
      bit of code.

Of course, you could also consider Frugal theme,
as it's a strong choice too...

As always, it depends what you're wanting to get
out of your theme. If you just wanted to create
a bunch of monetised niched sites across many
different niches, and quickly, then you might well
      prefer something like Socrates.

I prefer thesis over headway, it just look like a million dollars after it's all customized.

You can also insert adsense anywhere you want in thesis, without the hassle of editing the header, footer, etc. files.

I like Thesis, or did. I am starting to dislike very much. I bought the developer version probably 2 years ago, and I have never received any notice of an update.

And now when I have tried to get one, I have searched for two weeks how to even get into the forum. I have entered my email address at the "lost Password" page three times!
There is no contact info anywhere, and it is a royal pain to even find out which version you have!

If I am bashing Thesis because I have overlooked something somewhere, will somebody please tell me?

I personally love Thesis. It's the only theme I use now. Before I used a lot of the themes from Ithemes, but I like thesis better than any of those.

Really anything you want to do to thesis you can find in a video search. I get everything I want done, without really knowing anything about PHP

I'm NOT a coder, and I own multi-site licenses for Thesis and FlexSqueeze. I like them both.

Thesis is well known by coders, so if you want to buy a theme that you can easily outsource some design work with, Thesis is the way to go.

FlexSqueeze is better for those making their own sites, using the built-in functionality.

I have bought developer's licenses for many themes and Thesis is the only one I regret. I hate that theme. It's not at all user friendly and I don't find the sites it makes very attractive.

That's because (no offense) you probably suck at coding as do I.

It is an amazing theme for CODERS. So be one or hire one and you get beauty. Coders know this theme well.

      Otherwise you get default mediocrity.

You're correct. I'm not much of a coder and don't want to be a coder and don't need outsourcers to produce gorgeous sites for my customers. I just chalked up Thesis to pissing a bit of money away. If Thesis is for coders, the sales page should say ... Thesis is for coders. You'll get nothing but mediocrity if you're not one.

I've been using the Headway theme - very easy to use. Never did like Thesis. I also have my eye on the Frugal theme which looks easy to use as well.

I am using Thesis now and I think it is a very good theme, I'd say one stop theme. I used to look for free themes but never been happy with them. There are videos and tutorials on how to use and set it up and running,

    many alternatives are in town:
    - Socrates
    - UltimateBloggingTheme
    - AffiliateTheme

I don't own the above (except AffiliateTheme), there are so many alternatives which make you don't know which one is best, but thesis looks like as if you are better be a coder, or you will be having headache.

I'll add in one more quick point. I do use thesis with it's sorta default settings on a lot of review sites. That's because I think the sites convert better when they are not gorgeous.

I don't want ugly. But I also don't want super pretty. Thesis is great for review sites.

Flexibility is great, yeah. I started with that for some stuff and then just paid for flexsqueeze because it is better.

I think so. The theme gives you a dashboard to use inside of wordpress and saves time when making changes. I also bought a skin called easy thesis. I can upload headers through the picture files and redesign it as much or as little as I want. I think it is also a great design. You can check out their website for how other businesses use it on their website. Thesis is really flexible for design options.

    Here's the deal...

You have to make Thesis look ugly. Out of the box it's vanilla, but it's not ugly.

As for most of the other frameworks, like Headway, most of them are average/ugly out of the box. And usually, they just go downhill from there when people start tampering with them.

Why do I say that? Because the web is 95% typography, not images!

Most theme designers can't be bothered understanding type, and setting it right on their designs. They don't get it.

Thus, they look average at best.

Chris Pearson gets it. Setting type that is.

Check the link in my sig to see what Thesis in the right hands can look like.

There are some other theme designers who make great designs, and set their type well, but not many.

I agree, the web is about words, not images, its leaning a bit more toward video, but still the basic currency of the web is words. Links, LSI, title tags, its not about images, except to create an atmosphere on your site.

I like Thesis because I can make an alright site in a real short amount of time, and I would rather make an alright site, (especially one with built in SEO functionality so I don't have to look at that red banner of the All in One package) and spend the majority of my time getting traffic to my sites.
