If you have to own a site you will have to find out a hosting provider for your web site. You can search the web hosting provider on the web. But you should select one and best of them according to your requirements.

Web Hosting Talk - The largest, most influential web hosting community on the Internet is a good site that has loads of offers plus independent reviews.

Personally I use Sharkspace.com and have found them quite good so far.

OK...so where to start...where to start.

First, do you know what kind of hosting you want to offer?

Start out with a reseller plan. Build your hosting website. Install WHMCS if you are using a cpanel reseller. Get 2co account or merchant account so that you can accept credit cards. set up paypal.

Oversell reseller web space as much as you want - you can always upgrade to another plan later. Most likely your first 20-50 customers can fit on one simple reseller plan.

Once you have 1 or 2 reseller plans filled up, its time to move to a dedicated server.

For advertising try forums related to webmaster - internet marketing, web hosting forums, seo forums, etc.

Add valuable info to build initial customer base.

Use customer base to help spread the word of your company.

I wrote an extensive guide on setting up a web hosting company, but can't link to it from here. Sorry.

      Regards,
      Dan

Granted the hosting industry is booming with the broken economy. However I must ask why would you want to jump into such a highly saturated industry in the first place. You realize you will be competing with companies like godaddy and all the others no matter what set of keywords you are trying to target. With there pockets so deep it will be almost impossible to beat them out.

Hmmm.. Do you not have a monthly membership site in your sig file?
There are many ways to make a monthly income.

Yes a hosting service is one option, but there are plenty of others.
If you are planning a hosting service, then maybe start a local service and offer small companies/individuals basic site set up services in exchange for a monthly hosting fee.

You can install a blog, show them how to update and use it, add a DIY site builder etc and allow people to make their own business sites, or add it as a service.

Setting up lots of one page websites for small companies in your home town, and charging them $20 per month for unlimited hosting accounts will seem a bargain for them, but it is ongoing income for you for one hours work in the initial set up.

Depends on your goal for constant income of course

100 clients at $20pm gives you around $1600 clear after your costs and charges.
Remember, once you have the client, it is pretty hands off except standard support, but it can become time intensive if handling complete newbie clients.
