I have been looking at the Amazon affiliate program, is it any good, does anyone here have any success with it?

    Hello,
I have been using it for a few months now and no sales. I get clicks, but no one every buys. Overall I have heard good things about the program though from different people.

  • I did a one-month adwords campaign using it, spent $700 and earned $700, and I pulled the campaign. There are ways to make good money with it, I'm sure, but the best might just be throwing banners up on the side of your site similar to putting adsense ads up, only you get to decide the products that you advertise and you get the commissions directly. I'm experimenting with that idea now.

The lamest part is that you have to wait 2 months to get your commission payments...

I've done very well with Amazon in the past using Adwords, and I wrote an ebook (Dominating Amazon) explaining the system I use. But due to other commitments I haven't had any campaigns running for a few months as I don't have the time to manage it at present.

But when done properly it can pull in some great returns despite the low commission rates.

If you broke even right fom the get go like you said you were doing real good. If you optimized that campaign you could easily be earning a god income by now. Put in $700 and get 700 back. With that being said. Adwords is going crazy with slapping accounts It sux building up a campaign only to get slapped.

      Cheers

Amazon Affiliates commission rates are very low IMO, Ive tried promoting their products, it was okay... didnt do much for me. Adsense is better ( just my opinion). But whatever you promote, clickbank products, adsense monetization or amazon etc, you need to have huge targeted traffic, so monetize later, first build good traffic.

I used to run more PPC Amazon campaigns than I do now, and the key to making them work was working the various seasons.

I did well with gift items, especially if they were not easy to find in stores, during the Christmas run up until about a week after the new year. I paused the campaigns the rest of the year.

Same could be said for the other big gift-giving seasons - Valentines, Mother's Day, Father's Day, graduations, etc. Run the campaign for about a month before the holiday, then pause.

As far as the delay in payment, I'll agree that it's a pain waiting for the first check, but I've never had a slew of refunds that made me work just as hard to pay back commissions like I've had at Clickbank. Knowing I have to make X sales before I start getting paid again is a bigger pain in my posterior...

Nope. Each product was featured on a basic html pre-sell page. The ads were worded to get clicks from serious shoppers looking for a specific item. The landing page featured some info on the item and a blurb about the advantages of buying from amazon. Add a link, and bingo...

At the height, I was probably promoting a couple of dozen items total, priced between $50 and $250. The best part was the add-on sales.

Mama X would go to buy Junior his video game, and while she was there, she'd add a boxed set of CDs for Papa X, some other gizmo for Sis, and maybe some other goodies.

The best one was a buyer who bought the DVD set I was promoting and 25 food baskets, which I'm guessing were used as business gifts.

I used it when there was no other option. Now I use ebay. I have more income and better conversions with ebay than Amazon.

You gotta push the high end products. Many have commissions which
pay as much as any ebooks you may promote through CB and people usually feel comfortable buying higher ticket items through Amazon.

    Digital Cameras
    Plasma TV's
    Computers
    Home Theater
    Projectors

    Things like that.

Waiting for the first check is the longest, then it's
just a monthly payment like Ebay or many others.

Hi, reading this post I was going to tell you about my own amazon experience, but now I am thinking of getting ebay ads??

I've had amazon on my blog for at least 8 months, haven't really done anything rather than use the widget, no sales. But I haven't really promoted it either.

If anyone has tips on what worked for them, would love to hear it...

I hope I don't sound dumb, however, I am new. Did you go to amazon and sign up as an affiliate, or did you just use what squidoo offers as far as adding a module. If you signed up as an affiliate through squidoo, will they accept a squidoo lens as a website? When you fill out the application, it asks for a website, and I was just wondering if you can use a lens.

      any help is greatly appreciated.

I used a combination of Amazon modules and text links with my Associates ID embedded into it. Sorry I don't recall about the website but I think a lens or wordpress blog might work.

    Isn't Squidoo Seth Godin's hatchling?
    The guys a genius.

Tiffany are they costumes for infant snails or for baby peeps to look like snails
    S-Car-Go?
If for snails, you certainly must have one heck of a tiny sewing machine and insane patience of a saint to thread the itty bitty needle!
If for peeps won't the sweet little bunnie be scarred for life due to the humiliation :O

I'm just now checking you Lens about the WSO too.
    Looks mighty mighty interesting.

Although, after the election and if a certain someone gets in Santa might just be doing a fly by this season.
yes, I am having nightmares about it. Thanks for asking. No, not alkied up and have had my meds. Court ordered I better!

I've had some success pushing high priced, specific items using adwords. To keep "looky loos" away from your ads, I always use the word "Buy"

    For example:

    Buy Whatchamacallit 4325G
Back in stock at 29% off
    Free Shipping today

Keep in mind that Amazon only has a 1-day cookie. If you don't sell today...forget it.

You could read "One Grand a Day"(Georg Ruah) along with "Dominate Amazon" (by James Simpson) they are a great combination tell you everything you need to know about building up a business with Amazon. There is also Amazon Hunter the software designed by Georg Rauh of One grand a day ( I think he is a warrior member).

Hope that helps those interested in Amazon.

I'm also doing really well promoting Amazon products on my lenses. Squidoo have 6 different modules for Amazon know, plus you can use your own links to earn potentially more.

I wrote a short post about putting Amazon links in lenses on my Warrior blog.

Does anyone know why Amazon Hunter was discontinued? http onegrand dot moneyflux dot com says it was discontinued 'due to recent changes at amazon.com' and a certain Ulf Hedlund after googling Amazon Hunter says it was discontinued due to forces beyond his control.

I was also thinking about the Amazon Affiliates. Looks like there is good and not so good so the best I can see is give it shot and see what happens. Is there a large learning curve to using it?

      Gator,

You'll find a wealth of resources on here regards to Amazon. If you search on "Amazon" "Amazon Associates" or select the "Amazon" tagged posts, you'll have a great starting education in Amazon.

It's really not that hard. Getting accepted is easy and Amazon Associates give you lots of tool to succeed.

If you're still stuck after doing some research, PM me and I can help point you in the right direction.
