Site found when searching for a subset of target keywords

Hi all,

I've constructed one of my sites using mostly 4-word targetted keywords (key1 key2 key3 key4). I found that the compeition for these words were quite low with a decent amount of traffic. Right now when I perform a search for key2 key3 key4 in google, I find my site ranked on Page 1 (around 5th). However when I search for my targetted keyword, I am no where to be found.

Most of my posts have only been up for 1-3 weeks. So is this a time issue? If not, would someone possibly givem e some pointers? I could PM an example post if needed.

Thanks!

Try to post fresh content on your site around your main keyword.

Get backlinks where your first keyword will be the anchor text.

Just to be perverse, I would do the opposite.

It seems that kw 2, 3 & 4 are easier to rank for, for whatever reason.

I would concentrate on improving their positions, to maximise the benefit and sales you get from them, before worrying about kw1.

To be honest, I think that I optimized for the 4 word keyphrase more than the 3rd. I really wanted to be noticed with the 4 word phrase as it generates more searches than the 3-word. My hope was that by optimizing for the 4 word that I would get searches for that set along with the 3 word subset. It looks like I've got the 3 word down but not havig much luck with the 4.

What's your traffic like? Are you measuring what keywords people are using to get to your site? Maybe the competition is stronger than you think for your first keyword phrase. Are there a lot of PPC ads?
