Looking for a bit of general help

Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I was just looking for some general Internet Marketing help. I'm trying to get really good at this and find that some of my posts and products are working well, while some are not.

I feel stupid asking this, but if someone wouldn't mind helping, could I send over a few of my sites/posts that are converting really well, and others that are not? I'm trying to figure out after applying the same techniques to each post why some rank really well with high competition, while others with low competition don't rank at all.

I know some will say get some backlinks, etc, but I really haven't done much of that work to most of my sites. Yet as explained above, some are doing great, while others are lagging behind.

Would be nice to know why. Anyways, I know this is a long shot, but appreciate any advice people can give me.

Thank you!

If you're referring to your search rankings just because there's a lot of competition doesn't mean that the keyword is competitive. You should check the searches with quotes and the search operator allintitle:keywords to see how they compare. Sometimes you come across keywords that are on a lot of sites but many are not optimized for it.

In additional to what Jericho has said, you want to make sure to do more competitive research using Market Samurai or Site Explorer - Yahoo! Site Explorer and check out the top 10 competition. Do an evaluation about your competitors and you'll find out why some keywords are harder to rank.

I do have Market Samurai, but only the free version. I assume the tool you are mentioning is in the paid version? Is there any way to tell how good the competition is in the first ten results? Some of the bigger sites for my niche (espn, cbssports) I know are big, but there are other sites which I am not sure about.

        Thank you for your time!

I didn't know about the allintitle. That may explain quite a bit. My best performing keyword has 471 returned results. Another keyword (where I rank on Page 2 and has less returned results with normal searches) has 980. My newest set has about 4,200.

So is the allintitle a good way to gauge the real level of competition? Are there an recommended values?

Thanks for your help, love learning new things .
