I Must Be Missing Something..List Owners - Can You Answer Me This?

..why are list owners sending offers to me which link to squeeze pages? Duh! You already have my email address!

What worries me is that I've seen quite different marketers doing it, which poses the question: "does it work, and even if it does, why?".

I am not a list owner myself so I probably am missing something.

    Hi Damien,

There are two main reasons I thought of.

    1. They don't segment their lists or have any other page for people to go to, this boils down to laziness on their part.

    2. It's possible they are trying to get people to sign up for more than one list. If they are sending their opt-ins to the same opt-in page where they already opted in, then they should probably re-assess their process.

A few other thoughts: Perhaps they have a new bonus, and it's just easier to send everyone tot he same page to get it. Or, maybe they are starting an entirely new list, and will automatically unsubscribe people from the old list.

I'm sure there are other possible reasons, but I haven't had any coffee yet, so that's all I could come up with.

    All the best,
    Michael

I've had a few people do this and it was for an affiliate product they were promoting so it may not be their squeeze page they're sending you to.

Other than that - what Michael said

Damien, I can give you one great reason, and I am sure there are others.

I am planning on releasing a physical product soon and offer it at a HUGE
discount to people who are TRULY interested in it.

So, what I will do, after I go through the whole PLF process is send my
entire list an email saying that in 24 hours, the product goes on sale and
IF they want to be notified at that time with a special URL where they can
get it for a significant discount, to sign up to this special list.

And then, 24 hours later, only THEY get an email for the pre-launch.

Like I said, there can be many other reasons, but that's just one. You want
to see who is REALLY interested in your product.

I'm assuming you mean they're sending their subscribers to other squeeze pages of their own (because if it's someone else's squeeze page, they're most likely either selling something, or ad swapping).

By having their own subscriber opt-in to yet another one of their lists, marketers create targeted lists within their general lists. So for example, Russell Brunson recently launched the Darkside of DCS. What he did was send subscribers to a squeeze page (I forget what it was) in order to get them into the funnel for this new product.

All these subscribers opted in specifically to get more information on this 'Darkside' stuff, so Russell knew that this list would be much more targeted than his general list.

When you have a sub-list like this, you're basically allowed to mail them more often because each person on this sub-list has raised their hand to receive information on whatever it is you're planning on selling them.

Basically, sub-lists are generally more targeted, and therefore more responsive.

    Ad-swapping with another marketer?

    Doing a little segmentation?...

Send List A subscribers to a new squeeze page which offers them something new. If they opt-in to this new list, they have even more interest in that new area of the niche. This creates a much more targeted List B to sell to.

They probably have more than one list and are trying to get you to join more.

      It does work.
