Overwhelmed Newb w/ Potential Seeks Advice

Hello fellow Warriors... Hope I'm posting this in the right section. Anyways, I’m a total newb that needs a financial/occupational makeover. I’ve been digging through here & finally have some questions. Sorry in advance for the length of this post.

My brain is buzzing w/ ideas and I don’t have any sites or blogs up yet. I’ve been able to accomplish most things I’ve set my mind on and this won’t be any different. I feel I have at least 10-20 learned skills/job-licenses/hobbies that I know pretty well that I could provide valuable information/products about. I have lots of time to dedicate to this, I’m already on the computer many hours most days and have acquired fairly decent computer skills over the years. Now I need to convert that time & info into a plan of action in order to reach the goals, lifestyle, money, whatever you want to call it. FREEDOM ?!

My first child is due in 3 months & I will be a stay at home hopefully IM dad. Don’t worry, I could make more if I ramped up what I’m currently doing but want to reach past, way past those profits that eat up many hours/days of my time.

The WF & WarRoom is exploding with solid content. I’ve been on here and reading some books for up to 10hrs/day trying to get an understanding of the different types of IM. I want to thank everyone for their contributions to this forum. Your all probably well aware of the money, time, and aggravation your saving people.

I’ve been reading your accomplishments and suggestions to others. Take action, I get it, I just like to have somewhat of an understanding of what I’m about to devote my time & money into it. I don’t mind doing the work myself starting out so I can get a better understanding of the process then I’ll outsource whatever necessary. I’ve always done my own automotive pm’s/repairs/mods for the same reasons. I have outsourced the rebuild of my transmission in the past, lol.

Been reading about lists, copy, squeeze, reports, giveaways, oto’s, presales, articles, content, free/cheap traffic, autoresponders, blogs, backlinks, seo, keywords, affiliate, info marketing, PLR, product creation, video, banner ads, site flipping, software, plugins, facebook, youtube, mobile, and so on. Every night I seem to fall asleep to the writings of Claude Hopkins, Eugene Shwartz, Napoleon Hill, Gary Halbert, etc. Not because they’re boring its just that’s what I do late at night and I’m beyond exhausted at that point.

I’m looking for somewhat of a mentor but a mentor in the general area of todays Internet Marketing, meaning I’m not looking for a niche IM mentor of ad words, traffic generation, copy, etc. So I’ve been trying to decide who’s system/methods/blueprint to buy into (Chris Farrell, Denis Becker, Chris Rempel, Kevin Riley, Scot Standke’s NAD personal coaching, among others) or is it even necessary?

Its a bit overwhelming, all the methods that I’ve learned through the WF. I’m still figuring out what type of startup would be best for me. I’d like to have some background affiliate/info/review/flipping sites going but would also like to operate a few ecommerce storefronts for family, friends, and myself. Am I over aiming? Guess I need to start something but not sure which to start with. Maybe I should start some keyword/domain searching. I do have a fair share of PLR I’ve been collecting over the last couple years, not sure how helpful that might be.

I’m trying to study up on software & tools that prove invaluable. Best Spinner, market samuri, RAP/or, aweber/or, Wordpress, all have many followers here so that’s where I’ll start. have other suggestions?? I’m currently very interested about Trendminer Pro, a few WSO’s on flipping/easy domain cash, fbsiphon, perpetual traffic formula, turbo profit sniper, IPK.

Some recent programs/systems/blueprints that seem profitable are very similar; viral marketing, mobile advertising, profit miracle, blogging to the bank, google traffic pump. Many are traffic related topics. Who are the traffic guru’s?

What path(s)/posts do you suggest I explore further. What do you think my next steps should be. What are your suggestions about mentors, affiliates, traffic, starting out.

Remember I need solid income from this within the next 3 months. That’s very reasonable/doable isn’t it?

      1. Your bold lettering has been a strain on my eyes. Sorry, just needed to point that out. Please don't do it again.

      2. Mentors are not cheap or free. Not decent ones at least.

      3. Stop reading. Yes, stop reading all the different ways if you want to really save some time and start earning sooner vs. later.

      4. Pick a niche. You are looking to create an online business. Every business is focused on a specific area or product or service first. What is yours?

      5. Once your niche is determined, investigate how others are monetizing and how their system are set up. If I wanted to start a business selling shoes, I would look at how others are doing it. Take notes, and only learn and invest in what works. Don't get caught up in what you don't need.

      6. What should your next step be? Put together a real business plan, and then take action. You will fall, you will fail. Learn the mistake quickly and fix things and move on.

A good place to start (if you're completely new) is by offering a service. You know, "earn while you learn" type of thing.

If that's not your cup of tea - then pick out a niche and start building. Be consistent and you'll do just fine.

        6. What should your next step be? Put together a real business plan, and then take action. You will fall, you will fail. Learn the mistake quickly and fix things and move on.
I like to think about this as "adjusting the plan" instead of "failing". If you think about it, nearly every successful business has "failed" at some point - normally business plans change dramatically over the first six to twelve months.

Don't get bogged down with too many approaches and ideas.

Pick one small niche with low competition, do keyword research, start a blog, start a list by offering a small report. Then monetize your list.

Jill put it nicely for you. My advice to add to that would be to take it one step at a time.

Focusing on one aspect at a time is going to help you see better results quicker. For example, you don't want to create a website before you know what niche you are going to be a part of.

While you are voraciously reading everything you can get your hands on regarding IM, the real secret to success is to take it all in and translate it into your own method and do trial and error. I will make a solid bet that everyone does not do internet marketing in the same step by step way from any IM program. I found that out early.

Be yourself and after you get that plan together as Jill (avenue girl) has eloquently stated, then implement the steps in your own way. That's how I found success. If you get caught up asking yourself if you are doing things the right way, you will drive yourself crazy.....

Hi, It is not in my nature to comment without being asked but your "story" did gave me enough reason to do so. Yes, it is painful and very confusing for anyone in begging and the information overload is the main cause of failure and stagnation. Therefore :
        1) There are tons of people out there, that mastered (or not really but they try) the art of exploiting eagerness and desire and shift it towards the "greed" using different ways like fear of loosing, "one time offer, you make 1000$ 1st day or I give you money back" etc. FORGET ABOUT THOSE , unsubscribe from all lists and you will save ton of time and money .
        2) I guess most of people learn trough experience and since you are asking advice and you sound to be willing to learn I'm sure you are on a good track. You already got valuable advice here , use it.
        3) Connect yourself with proven and capable IM that has good results to show you OUT of IM niche and learn from him/her.
        4) Wheel in invented and our wheel (IM ) in turning fast - get together one model that is making you money and then just rinse (adjust) and repeat.

hope this help a bit, feel free to Skype me

    Hi DaSlowMoseS,

A long post you have here. Jason Ser here. And I know exactly what you are going through here cause I am just like you before.

If I can have only give you one single advice, it will be this.....

"Quit Learning By Learning and START Learning by DOING."

Let me try to elaborate further in response to what you wrote...

    You wrote:
"I feel I have at least 10-20 learned skills/job-licenses/hobbies that I know pretty well that I could provide valuable information/products about. Jason Ser reply:
A lot of us simply do not have enough time. If time is your advantage, you should really used it to make more targeted research and less general research

    Skills/Job Licenses/Hobbies

Why don't you make a list of the above and try to make a quick search on google to help you decide which had the most market potential?

    Jason Ser reply:
Congrats for you coming new born and congratulate even more because money won't be an issue to you if things dun work out well or do not move as fast as they should. Many of us suffer from both.

The best way to really understand is by DOING. You have the time, you have the money. You want to start by doing things yourself and out source later. These are all Good attitude and Great advantage to begin with

    Jason Ser reply:
I highly recommend getting a coach or mentor if you can afford. My 1st coach in IM only started December last year. His name is Alex Jeffrey. I didn't even attend his coaching live, but only through recorded version. I must say that even though what he taught can be found not only in this forum but also else where on the internet, I made more progress in 3 months more than my 3 years of struggle before.

As for which mentor you named to choose? I recommend doing a search on the internet and see how and what their student been doing. Pay careful attention to look for those students who are only a few steps ahead of you to have a more "down to earth" assessment, if you know what I mean.

    Jason Ser reply:
Man! You are all over the place but not at any place.

Some of what you mentioned are product courses, some are software and tools products, some are courses with software and tools bundle. Others are mere concept of marketing buzz word for a product, or simply names, models or nouns used in the IM. No wonder you are overwhelmed?

    DaSlowMoseS..

    Just-----Set-----Your-----Mind.

Here's what I will do If I were You...

    Option 1
If you can afford, find a mentor or coach. And just follow whatever he teach for the next 6 months or so.

    Option 2
If not, you can do this...
    - Get a domain using your name. USD10
    - Get a reliable host USD10-USD25
    - Set up Word Press blog (Can be done within most hosting provider)
    - Use your blog as a journal and record for your internet marketing journey.
    - Blog on what you learned, unlearned, struggles, triumph ,
    - Share and review products you used, un-used.
    - Joined and add affiliate link for the service/product you used and like.
    - Share your thoughts on product you want to purchase
    - Share your thoughts on product you want to purchase but didn't
    - Share your thoughts on product you won't buy

You can simply use the story and content of your post here as the about page for your blog.

I have no say of whether you can have a solid income within 3 months you start, because I didn't make it before. By solid income I assume you mean at least a 3K or more regularly. The people who I know for sure to launch a product successfully and earned within 3 months, all comes with years of learning and struggles before.

I do know a few who quit their job within 6-8months, but it doesn't mean that their life is all up and no down from that point on. They still struggle, but they sure continue to learn by doing at all times.

"Quit Learning By Learning and START Learning by DOING."

    Tell me what you think.

    Jason Ser

P/S: One week ago, I start to mentor a friend of mine to start something on the internet. I get her started her beauty blog up and running and recommend her to join a blogging comment challenge started by another work-at-home mom marketer.

She complete her set up and start her journey with an about page and 1 post. Her blog is only at the bare bone minimum. Within 24 hours after her challenge began, she received 9 meaningful comments from people around the world. Now she is all excited and motivated!

She have tons of question, but now all the question she asked will come with an answer that gives her an action to take, to bring her one step closer to her dream.

You can go to my site at jasonser.com and click on the [100 Meaningful Connections] page which I set up 6 hours ago to read the whole story.

Hope it will inspire you a bit.

    Hi,
It seems like a step-by-step action plan would benefit you. That way, you are taking focused action. I recommend the following 2 things:

Sign up at challenge .co (no spaces and not com). The Challenge formerly was the 30 Day Challenge. This year's already started, but you can catch up. It is instruction via videos and pdf files. You will learn a lot of skills.

Check out the free video course, A Web Business Explained at ChrisFarrellMembership . com. On the left under videos, you will find the title. Once
you click to the page, you will have to scroll past many comments to get to the
videos, which are at the bottom of the page. There is a lot of other free content at the site.

I admire you for wanting to be a Dad who spends time with his family instead of away at a J.O.B. Congratulations on the soon coming precious arrival!

    To our success,
    Jazzmin

A piece of simple advice that I would suggest my friend...is that you focus on production in yoru day rather than learning a million different things. You're so close to burning out but it seems you have the attitude to get through the wall of information that exists for you right now.

    1. Pick a Niche (go to front page of ezinearticles.com and you'll see a massive list of possibilities)

    2. Research and report

    3. As you gain research and knowledge, you can create info products on it.

    4. Build a list of people interested in your subject and just share what you know with them (both paid and free).

    5. Get a mentor if you can. Focus on SUSTAINABLE business models like product creation, auto blogs (generic term for blogs that search engines will always love...not just crap content blogs), and ecommerce stores (probably stick with the 1st two...this is much more difficult I think for a newbie).

    6. Write down your plan, what you Think you'll need to do, course correct, and only buy stuff that keeps you on that plan and makes it easier...avoid all the other shiny things online

    7. Keep posting threads in here and notice who gives you good advice, connect with them, ask questions, thank them prodigiously, and keep moving forward.

    8. Become successful NO MATTER WHAT!!! Nothing can stop you but yourself.

    Cheers,

    Brad

PS- PM me if you have any problems...I'd be happy to help!

You need to get clear, man.

It's hard in this biz to do that. If you're going to launch your own PLR
products, fine, but think through a logical sequence and family of
products to work with and improve.

A major thing in info-products is "framing" your business as being
about something. If you don't you may just have another IM blog
with hostgator banners on it or whatever, but feeble sales of your
    own products.

You want to give people something to orient their minds to when
they look at your stuff. This is an aspect of "positioning" and it's
best to do it at the beginning rather than groping towards a focus
by trying to roll-out different products and see what sells. The
whole goal, as you'll find, is to manage time and creative energy
so you're applying... um... pressure where it's going to be effective.

I have a coaching program if that's something you're looking for. My
preferred emphasis for coaching is on getting your first info-products
out and learning from the process you can rinse and repeat and do it
    on your own.

There's some great advice on here.

It's tough to know who to listen to when you don't know what you don't know - ya know? :-)

Although a mentor can be expensive, it doesn't have to be. Consider this approach -

You pay attention to what members of the forum are saying and doing. you pick out a few people who you can connect with, who are doing what you want to be doing and who are doing it well. Send them a few messages and start building a relationship with them. Once you've spoken to them a few times and they've given you a little advice, send them a message like this -

"Hey, I really appreciate the advice you've given me. It's made a significant impact on my business and I'm glad I was able to meet you. I realize that you have a very busy schedule and a business of your own to run so it means a lot to me to have someone like you to help guide me through this maze of an industry. There's something I'd like you to consider, if you wouldn't mind. I would really benefit from having a mentor and you would be the perfect person. Now what that would entail is just one 10 minute phone call, once a month, to help keep me on track and moving in the right direction. It would be a HUGE help for me and I wouldn't take up too much of your time at all. Let me know if that would be something you'd be willing to consider."

    Something to that affect.

What you're doing is getting your foot in the door. A 10 minute phone call, once a month, is nothing. But it's starts to build the relationship. All of the sudden, that 10 minute phone call with a stranger turns into an hour long phone call with a friend. Before you know it, you've got a great mentor and a new friend and it cost you nothing.

Now this may not work with the first person you approach. Some won't be interested. The point is - some will. You're approach was respectful, it was flattering (think about how you would feel if someone thought of you that way) and it asked for a very small commitment. That will absolutely work.

A mentor is not out of reach if you don't have the money to spend or want to spend the amount being asked for by most offering a mentoring program. You just need to replace the lack of money spent with a little ingenuity.

I wish you the best and feel free to PM me anytime. I'll help out in any way I can.

wow, ok now I'm overwhelmed w/ the amount of responses. lol. Not only the amount of responses but the quality of the responses also surprised me, I'm going to be looking over this thread some more. Wasn't expecting that all, especially over night.

I know I was throwing a lot out there, sorry. I've just spent the last week or so devouring the delicious info on this site and well I guess some of it just regurgitated into that post.

Considering the response I got from my first official post I really believe this forum will be of more help than anything else out there. Everyone else I try to explain this to responds as if I'm telling them a joke in gibberish. They say they can't comprehend making money online, besides selling stuff on ebay. I guess I'm looking at it completely differently than they are, I thinking more along the lines of unlimited/endless possibilities.

When I was asking about a mentor, I didn't mean a full blown $$$, hand-in-hand mentor, just trying to decide on which guru's info/methods I should stick with and continue to follow, methods that have helped others succeed here in the forums. Those who mentioned Chris Farrell, I've actually spent some time there watching 17 of his 21 web biz explained modules and I started reading his 131pg ebook create your first website by 3:45.

I really just wanted to take a week or so to try to get an understanding of the world of IM in the past, present, & the future. I've come up with some of my own ideas along the way, they're just sitting on the shelf next to everything else waiting for me to select which ones to get started with first. I appreciate everyone's detailed responses in regard to that. Now I feel prepared enough to continue on w/ this endeavor, just be forewarned of my questions I may have for you in the near future.

So I'm going to start some keyword/niche searching, follow that with corresponding domain name searches, then get hosting & study up on wordpress. But now I'm asking myself what are the best methods/tools/sites/software that help narrow down a profitable niche. That's why I was asking about trendminer, market samurai, etc; or should I just start w/ google, alexa, ezines directory, and ?

Many Thanks are on the way.

If you're indeed going to join Chris' site, I would suggest you join it first, before you do anything else, and then start from the beginning and follow the step by step guidelines provided within. It will save you a ton of time. He'll take you by the hand and help you figure everything out. You won't have to wonder what to do next. You'll know.

He'll go over picking a niche when it's time to do that. He'll go over keyword research when it's time to do that. Everything you need to know to get started and understand exactly what it is you're doing will be explained in a clear, easy to understand format.

The reason that I suggest you do that first is because it may not be the best idea to make decisions right now based on the limited information you currently have when, after two weeks at his site, you'll have a completely different perspective. You may learn things that change your mind about what direction you want to go in with your niche. He may say something that resonates with you and sparks an idea that just won't come to mind right now. If that happens, you'll have wasted the time you're about to spend on picking a niche and performing keyword research and as you mentioned above - you need to get going as soon as possible. You've given yourself till November to start earning an income. Get started today!

If you want to find a good mentor online then you will need to pay some money up front or even pay a monthly membership.

Look for someone who is really really successful and then see if they offer some sort of a training. This will be the best way to go.

Here's where I started making money online:

When I locked myself in a basement for hours at a time and said OMG I HAVE TO MAKE CONTENT AND BACKLINKS AND GO CRAZY MAKING A MONEY MAKING SITE AAAAAAAAGH!!!!

That's when it happened. I finally got my first sale!

And I jumped up and down like a middle school cheer leader watching her team win the big game!

      WEEEEEEEEE!

      It was fun.

Do that to yourself in a niche you like and you may find yourself experiencing the same thing.

I just want to warn you....you will be constantly interrupted by your new baby. A lot of succeeding in IM is momentum and it is real hard to get momentum when there's a needy baby nearby. Just make a daily to-do list and whenever your baby is sleeping or whatever jump in and get something done. But if you are not prepared for this you will get extremely frustrated trying to work while caring for a baby.

It was already mentioned, but it seems it got lost in the other valuable information - go to the challenge.co and sign up.

It's an excellent free training + you can get your hands on some decent tools, such as Market Samurai (perfect for market research). It usually takes about 30 minutes a day, so it's no big deal.

Makes sense, thanks for all the info Jason, will be getting in touch.

I figured that's what he meant by it. I research just about everything; from toothpicks & napkins to, well maybe not toothpicks & napkins. Just signed up @ challenge.co

I understand what your saying and I know its going to be a struggle starting out thats why I'm trying to get this started now while I can still concentrate on it 100%. I've been hearing outsource this, outsource that, outsource everything, so once I get get going I'm definitely going to be looking for those opportunities along the way. I don't just want be a stay at home dad, I need to be a successful stay at home dad. So I figured if I'm going to be staying home w/ my daughter I might as well work on some projects while I'm at it.

Sign up at challenge .co (no spaces and not com). The Challenge formerly was the 30 Day Challenge. This year's already started, but you can catch up. It is instruction via videos and pdf files. You will learn a lot of skills.

Check out the free video course, A Web Business Explained at ChrisFarrellMembership . com. There is a lot of other free content at the site.

I admire you for wanting to be a Dad who spends time with his family instead of away at a J.O.B. Congratulations on the soon coming precious arrival!
Thanks for the kind comments, I can't wait!! Chris Farrell's site is the only other site I've really spent any significant time at. I've read & watched just about everything but I'm sure there's some stuff I missed.

So that adds up to about 4 or 5 suggesting the 30 day challenge (challenge.co) First time I've heard of it. Thats exactly the kind of thing I was looking for, just signed up and about to check out day1

Thanks to all for helping me get my mind sorted & on track.

Just one comment on several posts here advising you to "pick a niche". Don't just "pick" a niche. *research* multiple niches and then *test* several promising ones.

There's a lot of people do IM by throwing mud at the wall and seeing what sticks Yep, I've done it too. It's very time and labor intensive!

I second "The challenge" at challenge.co - while basic, it will teach you a lot about researching niches and testing for viability. It's also free and only takes 30 mins a day for the "on" week, then a week off, then a week "on" again, for a total of 7 weeks "on".
