Tweetly Updater on Wordpress Broken?

Hi all - I just tried updating some posts on 2 of my WP blogs and found that the "Tweetly Updater" plugin isn't able to login to Twitter. This is a bummer and I'm wondering if anyone is having the same problem?

Twitter changed their access rights a while back, apps now need to have developer keys in them, so it might be that the plugin you are using has not been updated.

  • Yes. As of yesterday, Twitter has completed disabled its basic authentication access and has completely moved to a more secure OAuth-based authentication scheme. The new method requires all applications accessing Twitter profiles and data to authenticate users and request permission directly on Twitter's website.

Getting the plugin to work again will require some work on part of the developer as well as you getting new API access keys that are required for the new authentication scheme.

Twitter just required people using API's, software, etc... to register it with them in order for it to work. It's called OAuth. You will have to register it there and most likely it will start working again. They recently made it possible for one Twitter application to work on multiple domains. Go to dev.twitter.com and edit your app. On the right hand side, you’ll be able to add domains to your application.
