Google Instant-New Search Tool

It has been said that because of the way Google Instant works in the same way as Google suggest that people will click on the shortened form of the keyword. Google says the tool was created because people spend too much time typing. Some are concerned this will render longer tailed keywords less traffic and creating more competition for the already competitive shorter keyword. Are there any strategies being suggested to keep longer tailed less competative keywords relevant?

Hey that's a good question. I seriously wonder about that.

yea, didnt think about the long tail keywords. I think there will still be room though for some. A lot of people type in the exact question they want answered.

I do most of my searches from my firefox search window, which doesnt give instant results.

And another thought, google for quite a while has had the auto complete, and were still getting the long tail searches, so I think it may cut in, but probably not that much.

And with that, maybe people will start engineering those results by having many people do a search for a certain long tail keyword that they rank for. If its like google trends, it wont be too hard to trick.

I think most people will continue to type the word they are looking for.

But just in case, look at the Google suggestions to see which keywords would allow you to better position your website for the new Google...

I think it will impact on long tail in the short term, however longer term I still think long tails have a future.

Probably a good approach is more hardy keyword research to find shorter phrases which are still not difficult to dominate and attract enough traffic.

Personally I think there are still many of these keywords available

I think it will not be used by people too much. People will continue to their previous typing. At least i do it

I don't think it'll really affect search habits that much. I have talked to several friends so far about it (regular non-marketing/web guys), and the majority absolutely despise it! Remember that there is also an option to turn it off completely in Google.

Moreover, there are people like me who don't even use the Google search page anymore - I'm using the Google Chrome browser more and more these days, and I just type my search terms right in the address bar!

People love to speculate about things like this - it's irrelevant. Just test it for yourself in your niche and see what your results are - that's all that matters.

I turned it off as soon as it appeared as I don't have a problem typing a few words into Google and having that stuff come up while I type is annoying.

    I'm probably not alone.

This doesn't change anything for me.
