New to PLR - Need Topics!

I know, there's millions of things I could write about - that's the problem. I have been writing all my life - books, a screenplay, short stories, web content, EZAs etc., and am now setting up a new website to offer PLR five packs of around 400 words each.

I have Micro Niche Finder, I have Tiffany Dow's list of 446 topics she can't catch up with, I know about Amazon, Clickbank, popular magazines and all the rest of it. But my head is spinning - there's too much choice! Now, could you great guys in this wonderful forum tell me what YOU want so I can get on with some real work?

        Hi WimbledonWoman!

I, too, am just starting out writing PLR and I have the same problem as you described - too many options!

Here's my thinking on the subject -

I think we would be wise to start with Tiffany's list of topics. The list is a compilation of customer requested topics so you know there's a market ready to buy. Also, Tiffany herself doesn't yet have anything available for those customers and would likely be willing to recommend a quality source that does.

The hardest part is just getting started. I'm struggling with that myself. I think we have to just pick a topic, get over ourselves and JUST DO IT!! =)

I guess you're right. What are the chances we choose the same topic - wouldn't that be wild!

  • Here's an angle to think about it from. Who is your target buyer for the PLR?

Are you expecting people to come to your site, who already have an idea what kind of PLR they're looking for? In which case, you need to try and bring in that market.

Alternatively, are you wanting people to come who might want to launch a new site, but are looking for inspiration? In which case, you need to convince them that there's a niche in the marketplace that will make them money.

Both of these are quite valid ways to proceed, and there are probably plenty of other techniques I've not even considered.

You see? There's all these choices again and I'm hopping around like a flea. I decided a few minutes ago to have the rest of the weekend off. My head is so stuffed. I've been looking for ways to make money online every day since the end of May, 12 hours day. (I did build a 93 page website during that time, so occasionally I can make a decision.) You have no idea how many BS videos I've watched in those months and how many rented Ferraris I've seen. It's a minefield out there if you're not careful. Even in WF I can smell a few rodents!! LOL. I just don't want to make any mistakes - my time is far more valuable than anything right now. I am determined to make a good, steady, income online. I have no other choice right now. I decided article writing would suit me best (for now) - I just want to get it right.

Gee that was a bit heavy wasn't it? Thanks for suggestions Thom.

Uh oh too much choice! LOL!

Okay do this - scan through that list and pick Three topics you kinda like.

Remember what Mike Long said - wealth, health and love.

Choose one of each to start with.

Each of those 446 topics were not gathered by me but submitted by potential buyers, so the market's waiting on it. So pick something like this - and I'm going straight from my list:

1.) Wealth - joint ventures for profit
    2.) Health - foot care
3.) Love - jealousy (tailor it like "how to live a jealous-free love life" or whatever)

    Start there, then branch out.

    Hi there!

I'm one of Tiffany's PLR ATM students and getting started with my own PLR site, too. I read Tiffany's post today about students connecting here on the Warrior Forum, so here I am.

I got some good ideas by going through a few magazines like Tiffany suggested. Cool tip.

I listened to the video with Mike Long last night. It was really good stuff, I had a hard time going to sleep because I couldn't turn my brain off... thinking of the possibilities. LOL

Health, wealth, and love... and probably make money. These are the categories I'm concentrating on to begin with.

Tiffany, I want to thank you for putting this course together and sharing your expertise with us. I really enjoy your teaching style. I love that you're so real and honest. I've been looking for something like this for a long time.

Hope yall are having a good weekend!

Yet another Tiff PLR disciple here. I've only had my PLR website up for a few days, and have already gotten some topic requests. I'm sure you will too.

I also decided to write some Christmas PLR since we're moving into that time of the year. Of the modest number of sales I've made so far, the Christmas packs are the most popular. So you might give a thought to producing some Christmas related PLR.

Best of luck to you -- even though you are the competition.

Wow, Tiffany's PLR ATM course does seem awesome! I'd love to get my hands on the 446 topics... but I'm reminding myself that I'm focusing on one method of making money at a time, haha.

Right now, I'm working on product creation. Of course, that can also be PLR product creation, but I'm refusing to allow myself to spend any more until I repay the money I just spent on my product creation course with Jason Fladlien. :p

The "health, wealth, and love" suggestion is golden. By Googling "PLR + health" or "PLR + wealth" or "PLR + love", I bet we can all turn up more topics that people want. Thank you!

I decided to go this route before learning Tiff was coming out with a course. But, I had the same dilemma starting.

I chose three topics to start with.

First was a hot news topic. With research and writing I have spent about 3 hours on 3 articles. To note this is an area where I have very limited knowledge, so research was high to keep quality high.

The second and third were both in niches that I have written for myself, and made sales on my own with. I knew the topics already, so they took little time to write. The second pack took probably 2 hours for 5 articles (really well versed in this niche... made them longer than normal for this or it could have easily been faster.)

        Third took probably 3 hours.

If they fail... so what. The only way to really mess this up is to not try. I know from experience that my articles make me no less than $14 each if I write for myself... I am confident that I can make that much back per article with this.

So, at worst if I only make $14 per article ($1 a page, so 14 packs sold) I would be doing better than a lot of people are already (and that nearly matches my hourly rate now at the J.O.B.)

Here is the trick. I know that if I only sold 14 of each pack. Even if every buyer bought every pack that is 14 buyers now on my list, not to mention non buyers who opt in for the announcements and special offers. If they liked the quality, they are going to be more likely to buy again in the future when I release more.

Don't fret on perfection on the topics, pick one and knock out 5 articles and slap them up. In the time spent worrying about it you could probably have a couple packs up and making money, all the while getting testimonials and feedback to make your packs even better in the future.

I have read her free report, and just think about the snowball. Pack that snowball and drop it down the hill now! The faster you do, the faster this can really take off.

Thanks - I found it ... her Chi is too cute! Mine does the same exact thing to me!

I just wanted to add that those of you who are struggeling to decide on what to write on... just list out a bunch of topics - say 10 or even 20 and start writing.

Don't waste a lot of time trying to decide because you are going to need a lot of niche packs if you want it to be worth you while. So, since you are going to need to write a lot of them you don't need to agonize over which one to do first. Just list out a bunch and put the pen to the paper.

Don't make the mistake that I did when I first started out. I made 2 or 3 articles packs (I think I did dogs, green living and weight loss) and then decided to "just see how it goes". I listed them in a WSO for $9.99 for 10 articles and I did sell a few packs, but it wasn't a ton of money. Maybe I would make 1 or 2 sales a week. It was actually demotivational because I had spent a LOT of time putting them together and I agonized over the quality of the writing etc..

Anyway, it wasn't until much later that it hit me - you need to have a good variety in order to keep consistent money coming in! Think of it this way, if you went to the store to buy a shirt and they only had blue ones and red ones, then you'd buy 1 or maybe 2 and never go back. But if they had 50 different colors, you'd probably buy more and if you really liked them once you got a chance to wear them you would go back and buy even more colors, right?

....Oh and for those of you that have a site up, don't be shy about putting that in your Sig!

The health, wealth, and love advice is priceless. It's hard to go wrong with the Big 3.

However, I've always found that anything that solves a problems or takes away pain (pain can be emotional as well as physical) always does well. For example: preventing diabetes won't get nearly the interest from readers as dealing with it once it's diagnosed. This tip typically translates to the PLR world as well.

I've also had great luck working with niche research tools. Find niches that have lots of interest. Those are the niches to write PLR for!

I am so with you on this... it just seems like it should be easy to pick a topic and go with it.

But I keep having this nagging question. What topics or niches should I write about?
    • Did I want to concentrate on a specific niche?
    • Should I leave it wide open and write about any topic?
    • Should I focus on “Hot Niche Topics”… or should I stick with “Evergreen Niche Topics”.
Should I stick with topics that Tiffany recommends in her PLR ATM course? At least when the business is in it’s infant stages? Topics such as Health, Pets, Internet Marketing, Relationships etc.? PLR ATM talks about focusing on popular topics that sell well.

Or should I let go of the worry and do my best to choose niche topics that I’m comfortable with and get a few packs done.

Am I over thinking and making something a big deal when it’s really not?

I finished up the first PLR article pack - just so I would be comfortable with the knowledge that "yes, I can do this".

Those of you that already have a site to sell your plr from are way ahead of me... I'm on it, but life keeps getting in the way.

So glad to see others are having the same struggles and what you are doing to "just get going".

Well, I suppose the easy answer to this is to go with a topic that is as close as possible to a topic you are somewhat familiar with. This can cut down the time to get those first packs completed.

Tiff has customers requesting those topics on a list - which is a good thing - but you have to also determine how many are looking for those topics? If not a lot of people are looking for a topic will it make sense to sell that particular topic for a lot more money?

      Hi Debra,

You're not alone! I always tend to over-think things too, and it takes me way longer than it should to actually get anything done.

I had a hard time deciding on the first topic to go with too. I had made a list of topics I like to write about before I even got my hands on Tiffany's list. Talk about info overwhelm once I put the two lists together!

What I finally decided was to alternate ... one from Tiff's list, then one from mine so that even if I end up one day writing something I "should" do even if it's not a favored topic, I know that within a few days I'll get to do something from my list that I really like writing about too.

Sometimes I get lucky and they overlap. And then it's hard to stop at just 5.

I'm putting the final touches on my first pack this afternoon. I did things backwards as usual and built the website first.

      Cheers,
      Lena

Not such a "quick reply" - sorry. I already work for an agency - that's why I want to work for myself!

Of course I should have realized before I asked the question "what should I write about?" that anyone trying to corner a niche is not going to broadcast that fact all over these forums! Duh! I really appreciate all these tips from you seasoned Warriors. This site is indispensable when it comes to finding answers.

If you're still experiencing indecisiveness regarding which topics to pick, I'd recommend that you focus on the list topic(s) that you have some familiarity and interest in. There is really no surefire way to predict in advance which topics will do best or sell well, and the real key here is to take massive action in order to experience quick and tangible results!

By concentrating on the topics that you at least have an interest in, you're more likely to not only write the articles faster, but you'll also write more engaging and interesting ones as well!

Don't delay and procrastinate any longer - I know you probably went through that classic "newbie phase" earlier this year looking through any and every new flashy course/system that promises overnight riches. Now's the time to put all that crap aside and get to work!

  • My personal opinion is that it doesn't matter what you write about but how you write it. Choose to write about something which personally inspires you. If you want your online audience to read what you write and recommend your article to others, then make sure your article is written well.

Blank pages are scary. Make a list of 20 topics you think you "could" write about. Don't let yourself stop until you hit 20. Then go back and think of 5 headlines for each topic.

Now, pick ONE of those 20 topics that you think you can do the fastest and write the articles.

Then go on to the next fastest to write. If you are an expert on 3 legged albino cows, that is going to be the fastest to write. Save the articles on nuclear physics for when you are on a roll.

The reason this works is it stops you from circling endlessly in the "perfect topic" swamp. There is NO PERFECT TOPIC. Not even one. Once you break through the perfectionism and fear, you are on your way.

      Perfect advice.

      Perfectionism has its purpose, however.

For instance, when setting up an email address for your new website it helps to type in the correct web address.

This goes for wordpress installation too.

I have been banging my head on this for about an hour until I checked my email to verify the domain name. Of course I cannot fix it atm, there would be an issue with hostgator's c-panel right now, lol.

I'm another one that is using Tiffany's PLR ATM course and I have my PLR site up.

There are so many topics to choose from to write about on the list. To me, there are two ways to approach figuring out topics to get started... write what you know (which may or may not be what people are searching for as far as PLR goes) or divide the list into smaller sections, say 10 to 20 topics, and pick 3 or 4 topics from that smaller list... rinse and repeat.

Honestly, it doesn't sound like you need more options. You have a lot of those with the suggestions above and the large list that you have.

I am, by far, not making that much money online, but my best advice would be to write on what you know first. IM is a learning process (that's what I'm taking from it) so the first few products you'll release are getting you better.

Just focus on going through the processes instead of making it perfect. That's what slowed me down in the beginning (and why I'm not further along lol).

The topics will sort themselves out... just get started!
Pick something you're familiar with and seems pretty popular - like self-help mentioned by Edmond Loh and start writing.

I agree with what others have said - you need quality and quantity. The more packs you have available on your site, the less you look like a newbie PLR writer. Make them good, but don't spend a TON of time writing and researching each article or you'll find being a PLR writer isn't worth your time. The adage "Time is money!" is true here.

If you are asking for topic suggestions from your growing list, they will not be shy about letting you know what they want to see.

    Good luck!

I read this entire thread earlier, don't have time right now so excuse me if I missed this..

My need for PLR is not the traditional stuff, but the up and coming that isn't available yet...topics like green energy, e-cigarettes, employment in a down economy, and some other esoteric stuff that isn't touched on much.

Perhaps if you offered 'niche' plr for peeps like me, with the understanding that the plr packages would be available to others...

Hi, This is Karen (Wimbledonwoman). You were the ONLY person to actually suggest ANY topics after my post (PLR - I NEED TOPICS) 2 days ago. So, for your delectation I am preparing a 5 pack of articles on E cigarettes and a 5 pack of articles on green energy just for you. Gratis.

Now, on the subject of cigarettes I need to know if you are going to be promoting them, or if you want the hard honest truth, including product reviews. Same with green energy. As you can probably appreciate, e cigarettes are only a way of selling nicotine in another form, and green energy is great, but it takes years to recoup any investment.

You can email me through the link below, as I don't have enough postings to do much yet, and I will tailor the PLR accordingly.

You will be my guinea pig. All I would like is your honest opinion on my writing and content etc. Then I can adjust and post the packs for general sale at $5 per 5 pack.

BTW, Each header is taken from a Micro Niche Finder search and I have included each phrase approximately two more times throughout the 400-500 word article. If you have other keywords researched, please let me know pronto.

I need to get started somewhere - and thank you.

Money making or online business type niches tend to sell very well, also health or self help niches do well.

I started my plr website just a couple of weeks before PLR ATM was launched but I bought it anyway to see if there was anything Tiffany had in the course that would help me improve my business and it did. It is a fantastic product, but anyone that buys it will be competition so I'm not going to recommend it

Seriously though, it is a great course and the list of topics itself is such an amazing bonus!

Good luck to all you PLR ATMers!!! I love a bit of competition

Judging from the quantity of recent posts from new Tiffany-inspired PLR providers (such as myself), you've got more than a 'bit' of competition on your hands!

Should be good for everyone, though. The consumers of PLR will have lots of options to choose from. And the competition will keep those of us that produce PLR working hard to produce the best content we can.

      A win-win for all involved.

I agree with this. Having some quality competition is good. We know there's a lot of junk PLR out there. Quality competition can only help us because we will be more likely to only put out the best PLR.

So, in answer to the original question about topics, I was under the assumption you wanted a general topic, not an exact topic. Most posters won't give an exact topic because they would likely be writing about the exact topic and they don't want the competition. Me being the person that I am, here are five exact topics from those who've already signed up for my mailing list in the past few days since my PLR site went into business.

        1. wooden roses
        2. healthy foods you can eat without teeth while waiting on dentures
        3. train your puppy to use doggy training pads
        4. how to pay off your 30 year mortgage in 5 years
        5. autistic kids - dealing with severe social issues

Wow Cindy -those are some very specific topics.

          My take on these -

The wooden roses would be so specific that I wouldn't write PLR - I would sell ghost writing instead for these tiny niches.

On the other side of the coin - the dog, mortgage and autistic subjects seem broad enough for PLR.

The food for no teeth is just weird. I'm sure for that niche it's a good fit... I just don't think that I'd be able to write enthusiastically. :p

Anyway... it's great to see the ideas that others want for PLR... thanks for sharing.

Wow, there're lots of suggestions of picking topics for PLR in here

I also wanted to start my own PLR business this week. However, I think all of the product creators facing the same problem. We keep delaying things and eventually ended up with doing nothing.

I think the key to actually getting it done is by limiting the choices we had. Well, that's the key message that I got from Jason Fladlien It really helps me focusing in one thing and really get it done.

Cute Sheryl... "love a bit of competition". Not to much, just a bit. *giggle*

Wendy - it's seems like a toss up, doesn't it?

Big topics like internet marketing related stuff or narrow niches that are "esoteric".

Hard to know what to choose... it does seem that the "good" PLR sites (such as Tiff's) do both. I'm sure eventually we will "find the right path".

    This is a great thread!

You've already gotten a lot of great advice here, so I'll try to let you know what I think based on personal experience.

Firstly, I'm not going to give you specific pack ideas. I'm a PLR seller myself so I'll be using my own ideas BUT that said I'll tell you how I come up with mine - I try to be different to everyone else. I try to do packs that haven't been done a million times, and find out why the topic is relevant now. I have a good mixture of "hot" vs. evergreen niche packs.

With PLR ATM, there's going to be more competition, so I think doing different packs is more important than ever. Luckily there are SO MANY niches to write on

Also, what Tiffany said about health, wealth and love is a fantastic way to think about it. I could do with covering more on those myself.

My second bit of advice, which I think Peggy already said, is to worry more about getting started. Just start and you'll find it gets easier every time.

Your first pack is unlikely to make you millions, and choosing a less than hot topic is not going to make or break your PLR business. That's the beauty of this. Every pack you add is like an investment for the future, it'll all make your PLR store bigger and bigger. The bigger it gets, the more you'll attract a larger number of customers. Does that make sense?

I have been selling PLR for a few months but I loved PLR ATM and those niches are really useful. Even I haven't had time to pick any of them yet - but hoping to use them soon. I am so impressed with how hard everyone is working at actually making this a real, solid business.

    Hi Wimbledonwoman
The short stories you mentioned - were they your own and original?
    Did you sell/publish them?
I would be interested in buying ORIGINAL short stories in the form of PLR if they have not been sold or published previously.
So if you have written some short stories and done nothing with them and they are just lying around on your computer just 'parcel' them up and sell them to me!
    All the best
    Jack
