How to do a "Kajabi like launch" with your current cart (Tips list)

Many people are getting distracted by the pretty bobbles being promoted right now and I just posted this reply on our own support desk and thought it might be helpful to warriors:

Its easy to get distracted by all the hype and fancy bobbles... but not really necessary IF you already have all the tools you need right in front of you.

For example the fancy commenting system you are asking about on the Kajabi launch site main page appears to be Facebook connect integration which can be added to any website in just 5 minutes:

How To: Create a Comments Box with Facebook Connect in 5 Minutes on Vimeo

Or if you want an alternative another popular commenting platform that can be added to any site in seconds is:

DISQUS Comments | Register site

To change update your landing pages takes seconds just overwrite your current landing page with a new one with your updated content using ftp. All you really need is to have your series and prelaunch content ready before launch... and no system is going to write it for you ;-)

If you are really obsessed about automating the changing of squeeze pages and presales content on your launch landing page you might consider using a WP theme like these:

Product Launch Wordpress Theme

Or have some warriors write you a simple script to automate page updates if you really cannot be bothered to update your landing page ;-)

If you want some nice looking landing page designs and templates
look no further than the warrior forum... a quick post asking where to find people selling them or a scan of the Warrior Special Offer forum will turn up some gems... or you can hire a warrior from the warriors for hire to whip up some nice templates for you at an affordable price.

Remember that in the same amount of time you spend watching a big launch for a fancy new bobble roll out you could probably have set up and rolled out your own fancy launch with tools you already have
Now... warriors lets build on this... if you have other resources and ideas that will help other warriors pull off their own launches using their current cart... add your tips to this thread below.

  • Good point. Although, you have to admit, they ARE really pretty (Actually the video is quite cool. I did like what I watched of it).

The question I am seeing a lot... "how do I do ______ like Kajabi."

This thread is not about whether you liked the launch or not... its about sharing ideas for alternatives to the tech.

If we keep it to that we can provide beneficial content without the thread getting deleted.

It would be interesting to have a specification that could be posted to guru.com or elance to do the same thing as Kajabi using existing tools and very limited development. I'm not a tech guy and I'd like to have somebody put the whole thing together for me in the same vein as Kajabi.

I don't even want to set up a wordpress blog. All i want to do is supply the content and have somebody else set all the techno-gizmos up.

Perhaps the specification would simply be a link to the Kajabi promo video with a comment of "make this"!

Regarding the "fancy commenting system", the Facebook thing is cool and easy to implement as mentioned, but I think that what people are actually referring to is the commenting system that can be included on individual posts and pages and each comment can be labeled as 'question', 'answer, 'comment' or 'can't remember the 4th option'.

That is a little more elaborate, but is very similar to the 'threaded commenting' built in to Wordpress (themes must be compatible). Though the WP threaded commenting is basically comments and replies to comments, just easily threaded, I don't know of a way to label them directly as in Kajabi. (There may be a plugin to accomplish this, but I haven't searched yet.)

Okay, I may be the least techie guy on this entire forum, so go easy on me, but it seems like you're saying one doesn't need Kajabi (the "pretty bobble") to do the things it does, because you could easily do the same with existing tools, or hire a Warrior to do it. I would gladly hire a Warrior if someone could do ALL the things it took an hour to elaborate, not just the couple of minor ones you addressed, or learn the tools if there are only a handful that could be mastered by a computer idiot like me, and that aren't themselves prohibitively expensive.

But I'm skeptical of your skepticism. If you watched the video and can debunk the uniqueness of it-countering each impressive looking feature and explain how to easily and cheaply do the same thing just as well, I would be sure to avoid it, as I'm not anxious to take on a new $99 a month expense.

I just wonder how many Warriors I would have to hire, and how many tools I would need to get (buy?) and learn to use to do everything it does-not just the one or two things-and do them as well. Maybe there's an easy answer-before jumping all over me, recall I admitted to being totally non-techie, but of course that is part of the big appeal; for people like me to concentrate on ideas for content and marketing rather than mastering the manipulations of 1s and 0s (or having to put a techie on the payroll).

Making Kajabi irrelevant would require an all-in-one solution with a great interface that is easy for computer idiots like me to deal with, and provides all the advanced functionality Kajabi does. Or at least a limited number of easy to use tools that function well together without needing a computer geek to get them flying in formation. And again, that together provide all the same benefits.

Part of my skepticism is due to the fact that the videos made by all the people who have been beta testing it, as well as the look of their forums and web pages is 100% better than most of what I see done online without it. I may be technically challenged, but I know what looks impressive to an end user, and I know what a relief it is to be able to watch a video that doesn't take 10 minutes to load, stop every 2-3 minutes, and look like garbage anyway.

All of which begs the question: if existing tools (that aren't prohibitively expensive, or difficult for non-techies to use) can do just as well, why doesn't the stuff produced without it look and function better? Honestly, the forum features alone put just about all forums I've visited to shame. What other tool has the context feature, for example, and why is nobody using it, if it exists?

I don't mean to be argumentative; I'm asking for more info before dismissing it as rehash. I admit my ignorance, but I'm not without online experience as an end user/customer, and this stuff looks way cooler than the stuff that came before done with the tools readily available now (unless there are a bunch of new tools just coming out that are going to significantly upgrade content management, storage and delivery, security, video resolution, storage and load times, etc).

I just want to be able to remove the technical hurdles to getting things done online in a way that blows away the end users, and makes me look like a million bucks. If I have to become a virtuoso in the use of 20 different software tools, or hire 5 different technical experts, and try to make sure their work is compatible with each other's, then I will remain stuck, and it's worth the monthly fee to avoid the headaches.

Kajabi apparently addresses those concerns for easily distracted fools like me-and it isn't just about doing one or two functions-someone would have to explain to me how you can easily do everything it does as well as it does it without dedicating your entire hard drive 24/7 to the job. I know it's a tall order, but if you can't debunk it point by point, then having you point out how a couple of it's features aren't unique just isn't going to kill the sale in my case.

I would love to hear the estimate if someone does take the video to a programmer and say "do this", and then the result, because part of the problem with hiring a programmer is the often vast gulf between what they say they can do and the actual end result. This thing has been in beta testing for quite some time-I'd be amazed and delighted if one of our Warriors for hire could just duplicate it and have it ready to go in a month or less, and come in at under $1200 (a year subscription to Kajabi).

yes don't confuse the facebook comments on the front page with the actual commenting tools inside the system

obviously the facebook comments are to get the viral buzz on the homepage

the actual system (u need to sit through the 60 mins video to see this) has a few nifty tricks including the ability as admin to see all the comments that have been submitted as tagged questions (the members tag comments by assigning a category) across all the lessons in the course for admin to run through and answer quickly.

But yes do look forward to a plug in to do this cheap

Years ago I saw a comment script that would do that. It's not revolutionary.

As far as automating the launch pages, I have a script for that. I just haven't launched it, yet. Life got in the way.

good points, kajabi ticks a lot of boxes for me too but think you need to look at a big drawback of the the 1200/yr starter - only 500 users allowed

So if you hand out 500 log ins looks like you have to upgrade. Not clear if you can add users in smaller chunks and pay a little extra.

Lets see if we can get this thread back on topic...

If you HAVE EXPERIENCE with alternative tools or resources you think could be used to create and run your own "Kajabi style" launch share away...

This discussion is requesting the contribution of additional strategy and resource ideas that would work for those who already have a cart and are NOT looking for a new one.

Please do not post review or opinions on Kajabi. Save that for the product review forum.

I won't use ANY single provider solution for my business. I have backups for everything when I control the individual pieces.

Yeah I know, there's a bunch of people who want to just drag and drop and play office. Well a real business involves things like disaster recovery. If your solution provider goes down, and 100% of your business is wrapped up with that provider, guess what? You're out of business.

Those who think that this is overkill or paranoia, well you'll learn the hard way.

Kajabi is a great idea - as a software package for sale or license to run on my own servers, on my own databases, on my own hosting, with my own techs.

Not so much as a SaaS (software as a service).

You can use digital access pass (dap) to drip out the content and you can also use the headway theme to customize the members area to look however you want it to look. You can then save that theme as a skin for headway and duplicate it very easily across multiple sites.

As for the question and answer style comments, I have not found a solution, but my gut instinct tells me that there will be a plug-in programed very shortly

    Hi,

MichaelHiles - couldn't agree more, I use a bunch of SaaS products myself but when it comes to "Money", I need total control on my own servers.

There is nothing inherently wrong with SaaS, especially if it is Cloud Based but giving your Cash Register to someone else to look after is asking for trouble.

I use Delavo and can easily re-produce the majority of what is offered within the script itself using a variety of plugins and it's on my own server.

I can vouch for OptimizePress by James Dyson. All the fancy sales pages, squeeze pages etc. you see available in Kajabi's launch videos are easily done using OptimizePress (and WordPress). There are alternatives, and I'm a fan of this one.

I put together a quick video on how to create a kajabi styled squeeze page in less than 6 minutes with OptimizePress. I use it, and highly recommend it. I also use it on my product sales page as well (not in the video).

Kevin, Josh, thanks for the mention of OptimizePress.

Anyway I'm not posting here to promote my product (I've disabled my sig for this reason), I just wanted to chime in on the whole Kajabi vs... debate.

I think it's important to not get sucked in by all the guru's promoting Kajabi and think that you HAVE to have it. The honest truth is, for most people the feature set is simply overkill for what they require.

You need to look at your current business and what your plan is for the next 3-6 months, and ask yourself if Kajabi (or OptimizePress, JV press or any of the other solutions for that matter) is really required.

You also need to look at what tools and systems are out there that can do almost the same job for a lot less money (and minus the monthly fee). As Josh mentioned there are many solutions for membership sites, building sales letters etc, you just need to think about what you need to accomplish your CURRENT goals, and focus on those tools first.

A few years ago, this was the case with my IM business. I was continually buying tools, ebooks and other stuff I didn't need or wouldn't use, and was wasting time and money doing so.

The big turnaround for me was focusing on one or two main business models, and only purchasing things I required to accomplish my goal. One of these was actually purchasing Nanacast (for the affiliate program mainly). This gave me massive amounts of leverage and the ability to really scale my business.

So I hope that helps some of you guys, as I say don't go chasing the next big thing, just focus on the NOW and what you need to accomplish your current goals.

      Hi James Dyson,

Can I use OptimizePress as a Wordpress theme for my blog?

      Stupid question... I know....

But I have the impression that OptimizePress is used for creating Sales Letters, Squeeze Pages and Product Launch Pages.

If I want to create mini-site that focuses on a particular niche, can I use OptimizePress as my main theme? How does the main theme look like? Two columns, three columns or look like a magazine or news theme?

      Please shed some lights.... THANKS!

Josh, I have requested a nanacast integration with kajabi. Not holding my breath though. BTW - I LOVE my nanacast. wouldn't trade it for the world.

Some of the kajabi features are pretty sweet.

I like the gatekeeper function. (how could this be replicated?)

I Love the social interaction on each page of content. This is almost a must these days.

I have been throwing up disqus threads on each of my html pages.

I am in the middle of a launch and it had been pretty cool.

I am trying to figure out how to explout some of the gangster functions of kajabi with my current setup which is nanacast/icontact

    any ideas?

b/c nanacast is not integrated.. I had this idea

use kajabi / icontact for the front end lead capture and sales funnel to the point of "buy now" button (which would be nanacast)

I have implemented socialgo with nanacast and its pretty rad. The only thing that sucks is there is no single sign on.

anyone have any ideas for me?

This can be accomplished with cookies. You create a code that the script looks for and if the cookie holds the proper code then the page gets shown, if not then you are forwarded to the first page in the funnel.

I had been working on a launch funnel system that does this but I have so much else going on that there is no telling when I will be able to start looking at it again.

Guys. I dont want to take over this thread and turn it into a questions session about Optimizepress, so i'll answer the questions here but if anyone has any more please feel free to private message me and i'll get right back to them.

As far as OptimizePress for content sites - the short answer is no. Optimizepress is a "sales site" focused theme, it's not designed to replace themes like thesis (which i still use to build out content niche sites). It's really all about creating sales funnels which are optimized for conversions

Dave - we are working on an update which will include a range of membership page templates so you can create nice looking backend templates, but you will still require an external script like Nanacast, Wishlist or DAP to protect your content and create your members areas (unless you want an unsecured members area). We simply provide the platform and you can use the plugin/security system of your choice

Kajabi looks awesome but this is what I'm using for launching my membership site and for the actual content of the membership site...

        1) OptimizePress for creating slick looking squeeze pages, launch pages, order pages, etc., etc. and the same for creating my perpetual launch sequence. The perpetual launch sequence stuff for OP won't be ready for a couple weeks they say. (Cost: $97.00 one time fee)

        2) I used XsitePro2 just because I own it (although any free HTML editor will work) to build a simple site with a domain name that is very similar to GoToMeeting.com's domain. This sites look and feel closely mimics the look and feel of a GoToMeeting.com site and also GoToMeeting.com's webinar page. This site will be used for the one "live webinar" that is part of my perpetual launch sequence. (Cost: Free to $200.00 - but $200 only cuz I already own XSP2)

        3) I'll be using the FaceBook Comments plugin on my launch sequence pages. (Cost: Free)

        4) I'll be using the "Set And Forget Webinar" script available at CheapInternetMarketingTools.com for my fake but "live" appearing webinar. (Cost: $77.00 one time fee)

        5) Easy Video Player 2 for my sales videos and membership content videos. (Cost: $77.00 upgrade from EVP1)

        6) Amazon S3 for hosting my videos via EVP2. (Cost: 15 cents per gigabyte per month - if I recall correctly)

        7) Digital Access Pass plugin for drip feeding the membership site content. (Cost: $100 - $300 one time fee)

        8) Cutline Theme for my actual membership site. (Cost: Free)

        9) Hostgator for my website host. (Cost: $25 per month for a 5 cpanel account with different IP Addresses through seohosting.com)

        10) NameCheap.com for my domain registrar. (Cost: About $8 per year per domain)

        11) Cart: I was just going to use Clickbank (for the affiliate base) and/or Paypal.

 HERE IS WHAT I'M MISSING: As mentioned by someone previously, the one thing I'll be lacking (for now) will be the super cool way Kajabi will enable our members to have a central dashboard where they can quickly see and access all the comments they have made, questions asked and questions answered. Anyone have any suggestions for doing something like that because I really want to incorporate that into my membership site?

        Thanks.

      Hey Todd,

BuddyPress could be awesome if it does a comment thing like Kajabi! I'm checking out the BuddyPress plugin right now but based on its description I don't see if it can do the following (I'm using the Digital Access Pass plugin if that matters)...

      1) Will BuddyPress enable my members to have their own central dashboard where they can see all the comments/questions they've left on my membership site, and all the answers to their questions that others have left for them?

      2) Have you used the BuddyPress plugin yourself?

      3) I noticed that you have to use their recommended themes. Did you use a different theme? If so, what did you use that worked with BuddyPress?

      Thanks very much!

      Steve

Steve... Hey San Diego - Love that place - The "Activities" tab allows each member to keep track of all their posts, comments and other activities. Yes I've used the Buddy Press plugin.. it has a few quirks, but is fundamentally a solid social media plugin. I can't say, I'm an expert, but there are Buddy Press forums for help and I've done a little research that was also helpful ... I just Googled "Buddy Press plugins" and found there are a whole collection of accompanying plugins that allow changes to buddy press. One of those plugins adapts Buddy Press to other themes. My experience with it is limited. I did it once and it took some hacking and some swearing to get it to work out alright. But if you say just the right words in just the right sequence, you'll get home.

Along with Buddypress, I was curious if you've checked these out yet: Mingle, Pierres-Word, Echo?

                Kajabi , Kabaji .

it seems the same thing happens over and over again

Gurus mail out to their promotions and everybody is fooled into buyoing the next best tool that promises to make cash .they told you lovely things about kajabi but do you think that kajabi alone is responsible for their sucess ?
Or do you think that it is just the technical side that is important ?
That if you could just have the same software that Frank Kern or jeff walker used you would stand a chance

I believe that you don't really kajabi and kajabi is no good if you don't have team of jv partners emailing for you because lets be honest almost products being bought somebody somewhere mailed you and told you to check it out

I am not saying Kajabi does not have it is uses

But my question to you is do you need it ?

Do ya really need it ? lol

Only you can knows the right answer to that

Dude, this thread is about piecing together a system similar to Kajabi without having to fork over a bunch of money every month. And yes, a system similar to Kajabi will be awesome for doing perpetual launches too.

                  Steve

No but I just did and I really don't see what Mingle has over Buddypress. I think Buddypress will be a big player in the social network add on market but just don't like how its setup now. It just has an incomplete feeling to me that hasn't tempted me to join any buddypress community I've seen. Pierres word and Echo if I have the right projects you are referring to are just pieces not a real social network platform.

not saying you are but I find that alot of people just write Joomla off and have to have everything Wordpress based. The only thing that makes joomla harder than Wordpress is the added features. If you turn them off or leave them alone its pretty simple and soooooo much more customizable when you are ready to add features to your site.

    Hi All,

Just curious, one thing that strikes me is that in order to use this new system or any other video based system, is that you would need to produce or have a video produced for you.

I would be interested to know if this is being considered?

I'm creating my videos with a little Kodak ZI8 video camera (it has an external mic input). I'm using Screenflow for my screen capture videos. I'm editing both with Screenflow (since thats what I'm used to). My videos aren't as slick as Andy's but they will do the job.

Josh great thread. I am just about finishing a site with most of the features of kajabi - all open source (not free which people sometimes don't understand the difference)

Do I have a full social network? - check
Full content management? - check with hundred of great designs to choose from
Integration with third party sevices - check - Icontact seamlessly and several carts.
membership with dripfeed content - check

Video and comments - like you noted easy to add in fact. With a simple plugin I can add almost ANY feature I could with a normal HTMl based website on a page. all of your suggestion can be made to work in it. Squeeze pages , forms and anything I have, like, or can have made.

    Additional features -
-Full forum integration and I can use the same system to seamlessly populate user data to several other Open source applications.
-I can add features to any page at will and move the components anywhere on a page i want.
    - Facebook sign in (sweet registration is a click of the button )
and lot more. In fact every month more potential features can be added
(just have to watch security because each one opens a possible door).

Each user has a panel with activity but no it does not mark answered etc. Instead I can add a FAQ at will easily which long term to me seems to be more useful. I don't think that feature alone would justify Kajabi to me but hey if thats what you want its what you want and are willing to pay for.

It took me awhile to come up with my brew and to set it up and there are a few more features I would like before I go totally live (already have people accessing my SEO class). So far I can do anything I want with this site. Its all mine. I have own and operate all the code (though i haven't touched any) and data where and when I want it and its open source all built on my special brew of....

      Mike,

Did you find anything out there that can will enable my members to have their own central dashboard where they can see all the comments/questions they've left on my membership site, and all the answers to their questions that others have left for them...like Kajabi does?

      Thanks
      Steve

Yes and no. Yes they have a dashboard that has all their interactions. No it does not mark questions and answers separately. to be honest I think this features is overrated. If I have questions I don't want to look through a FAQ section or a wiki. Its fast and organized and doesn't incur a hefty monthly fee.

This is a great thread, Josh. Thanks for starting it. :-)

I want to incorporate a way to require my visitors/new customers to agree to the terms of service/disclaimer/whatever - before they finish the check out process. So, the check out button is grayed out until they check "I agree" button. Any thoughts, anyone?

    Thanks for your help!

If you're talking about recording whatever is on your desktop then I suggest Screenflow for Mac or Camtasia for Windows.

I bought OptimizePress and am looking forward to them integrating the perpetual launch feature. I assume you weren't answering the previous question because there is no way to create video with OptimizePress.

There is one being released today. A new Wordpress theme Product Launch Creator that will have tons of features built in. Basically Kajabi for Wordpress. I have been using it and it rocks. It will even be on Clickbank. Just got approved for $497.00 .

It will have a updated version of Frank Kern's Good Karma List Machine built into it as well as Facebook comments and a ton more of Goodies. I purchased it on Beta and using it now. It is freaking awesome.

    Hi Magentawave.

Yes I have screenflow, but I don't want to just capture the screen, but create some decent (nothing tooo fancy) presentations.

You can create the same cool presentations that Kajabi has on it's front page - I did. I did it to see what could be achieved with what tools. I emulated exactly the first 30 seconds or so, albeit without the "Hi there cousin Andy here" intro. I did use the same music creation tool AJ uses, and I recreated the logo pixel perfect, but called it Kashabi instead. Is there enough interest in WF to know how to do this? If so I might be convinced to publish how-to-me-to.

      Cheers, 'h'
