Could this be monetized?

If you have a talent of finding catchy domain names that are not already used, could you make money from it?

    A couple questions...

Are people already looking for that type of service?

Are there any competitors offering a similar service?

If not, you may end up being a pioneer who needs
to go through the time-consuming effort of doing the
work necessary to see if the idea works or not.

To me, it sounds like you have solution in search of
a problem, rather than finding people with an already
existing problem who actively looking for a solution.

Go after people who are already looking for the product
or service you have to offer.

    Sell what's already selling - it's a lot easier.

    Catchy or "Keyword rich"?

Big difference in value to most of us.

i sell "catchy" domains all the time (ebay, google, yahoo type) and yes they can be monetized BUT you must promote it as your BRAND...it wont sell itself since its brandable, hence your BRAND

        Hi there MagicAce,

Anything online can be monetized if you go about it the right way. A lot of people talk about SEO but that is only one way to gain traffic, if you have a good blog or an excellent sales page on something that sells (but lots of competitors) then use alternative methods. These include social marketing if you have a recreational website, forum marketing, article marketing etc. There are lots of ways to get a website 'out there'!

Just build your list from all of these sources. These can then generate backlinks and boost your SEO anyway

An example I can instantly think of is a flash game I used to play in my early high school years, it now has 10,000 active players at any ONE time. But if you search Google for "flash rpg" you won't find it until the sixth page.

Yes, definitely. You can always sell these domains to people.

You are going to have elaborate a bit. Does catchy mean sellmyhouse.com or does it mean you are finding made up words that could potentially be a hit?

Of course this can be monetized.
Set up a blog or a social network on the domain names you find.
Post relevant, good content every single day for 30 days and be sure to track traffic statistics.
Put the domain name up for sale at sedo.com or flippa.com.

Not saying you are going to make big money, but you can surely turn a $10 investment into a couple hundred dollars.

The more time you can spend to make the domain valuable the better.

Even better idea would be to crank out a product associated with the domain name and put it on clickbank. Work on driving traffic to it and making sales and then sell it on flippa. A domain name is much more appealing and valuable if it is getting good traffic and making sales.
