[Guide] Sell your eBook on PayPal (automated)

I've seen many WSO's where authors are using manual product distribution. That means once someone makes a purchase, he posts his transaction ID, or makes a PM and then he'll receive his copy of product.

That's great, but it's time consuming, and people don't like to wait for their product delivery. They want it NOW (once they've made a payment).

So, what's the option?

Get a fancy cart script? You could, but the beauty is in simplicity

I'm going to teach you how to automate your product distribution process.

1) Log in to your PayPal account
2) Click Merchant Services
3) Click Buy Now buttons

Step 1:

Skip the step 2, and go to Step 3:

And you are done!

Grab the PayPal button code and post it on your websites, or forum

Oh, you'll need a thank you page where you will host your ebook. If you don't have a hosting account you can upload your book to zippyshare and share the file URL.

And the cancel URL, I just write my WSO url there

If you have any questions, don't hesitate, let me know!

    Great explanation Emma!
I wrote a similar post days ago answering to a warrior that asked how to create a paypal button!

    That is the exact procedure!

    Best regards!

    Hi Emma,
I have always done business through Clickbank mainly because they collect and take care of the Value Added Taxes. As you might know, the VAT (a percentage) varies per buyer's country of origin. Being a European merchant, I think Paypal leaves me (and as I understand also many others) a bit in the dark here.
    But ...
I must congratulate you on an excellent post. It is very detailed, easy to follow and to the point. Thanks!

First off, thank you for the helpful post. I'm sure there are people that will get something out of it.

      But I wanted to mention...

Not that many people are actually doing things this way. Most WSO providers are selling through their autoresponder, dlguard, ejunkie, or some other system.

The problem is that far too many customers feel that they need to post their transaction ID in every single thread, thus creating an illusion that the seller is operating the way you describe. In reality, this is completely unnecessary.

I think it goes hand in hand with people not reading their confirmation/thank you page. Just about every digital product I have ever bought either gave me a link to return to the merchant, a link to the download page, the actual link of the download, or informed me that my info is coming by email.

For some reason, people see "thank you for your purchase" and they hit the X in the corner, then return to the page and post their transaction ID. Then, they will return the the thread an hour later or something and say, "hey! where is my download?"

Again, I do apreciae your post, but I just don't think there are that many people that are manually distributing WSOs.

On the specific issue of PayPal and VAT, they will take care of it if you want. Of course, you would only charge VAT if you are VAT registered yourself but I'll leave that to the accountants to explain.

But I believe they can only do it for one-off sales. When we set up a PayPal subscription based service, they could not handle the VAT and you had to do it yourself.

If that has changed recently, I'm sure someone will chime in.

    Cheers,

    Neil

The thank you page URL is your URL, this way is a little risky as anyone could be given the link to the download page, meaning it could become a viral link and you could get your product spammed all over.

I generally use paypal API and create memberships, unless the ebook is $5 or less.

        Regards

If you meant a LINK in the email to the download page - then yes, it's OK.

If you think that sending a zillin MB package via email as an attachment is a mart idea... think again!

For those who are worried about download protection, here is another 'version' of this method that I use . . .

On the thank you/download page simply have a web form telling the customer that they need to register in order to receive the download link via email. Then you simply add a download page as the confirmation page or send a download link in the welcome message.

This also helps if you use the automation options in Aweber (and many other AR's) and have the person removed from the previous list and added to the new one (so you don't keep marketing the product they just bought to them).

    Good Luck

I don't know who sells it but I use a program called wordpress profits system It's a wp plugin that makes the paypal button, cloaks the link and you set the time the link is good. Just wish I was smart enough to write something like that. Cause I look good in money.
