Wow, you actually did two things which a lot of people don't even think of when trying to promote their websites ( i'm talking about the press resease and the fliers). I took a peak at your site, and I got to say this is the most original and intriguing site that I've ever seen lately. If you could attract people which often visit cooking/recipes/restaurants/local businesses-related blogs, you'd have quite a traffic. You could risk with looking for co-partners in this restaurant niche, posting adds on freelancing sites. it might not get you anywhere, yet you also might find someone in love with the idea who'd have the resources to help you and take your attempt to the next level. Sorry if my reply isn't really specific.

It is refreshing to see someone using these offline methods of lead generation.

I think the best investment for your time and lack of funds is to sign up to various popular forums around your topic and spread the word. I think this would drive a larger number of targeted visitors to your website.

That's a really cool idea! I would go after blogs and forums at first, there is a lot of information on this forum about blog and forum traffic.

I think Craigslist could potentially bring you some traffic as well. If you have any extra money to spend Google Adwords could work, but I would be careful not to spend too much with this.

This is also something that could potentially go viral because it is a cool idea. Try social bookmarking it using Onlywire or something like that. You can also make a Youtube video describing the idea and put a link to the site in your description.

I think that optimizing your page a bit for the search engines wouldn't hurt. I had a look at the source code and there's no sign of an H1 tag in there anywhere, just an H4 and an H6 tag, and the text they were giving weight to did not seem particularly vital. I couldn't see any sign of the keywords you were targeting either, apart from - presumably - those in your title tag and so the search engines will find it harder to establish what your page is about too, and therefore which audience they should be presenting it to.

It would even help to name your header image file with your keywords rather than 'goodlogo' - if it can be seen in the source code it can be seen by the search engines. That shouldn't be a bmp file either - filesize would be much smaller and page loading a lot quicker if the image were a png or a gif. I'm not saying you should stuff your page with keywords, but you do need to help the search engines out with their job of getting you together with your target audience by giving them some idea of who they are.

I like the idea behind the site too, and I also thought how TV would like it. I'm seeing a cross between The Apprentice (a whole nation of them hoping that their restaurant has the grit to get to the top!) and Hell's Kitchen I hope it catches on for you - good luck!

That's a nice concept hmm...You should try the blogging approach if you want to better promote your business concept. It's easier to get traffic that way.

Your Facebook page is that a fan page? that's what you need...You should be more interactive with your flyers instead of just passing out...I think it's waste of money if you just do that...I work in a clothing store and I get a bunch of these local rappers passing out flyers but doesn't take the time to sell themselves...They waste money just by dropping it off. We end up throwing them away.

They should be networking with store owners or maybe exchange services so that those flyers won't go to waste.

Okay guys, I've had a chance to read and digest all your suggestion.

Firstly I have been reading about wordpress websites, and I am trying to recreate my website using wordpress.. then I will press on and figure out all the keyword stuff and make sure my site is in shape.

Just a quick question regarding posting on popular forums to try and attract traffic:

Do I try and manufacture genuine questions / answer queries - or I am just able to go on and honestly tell people about my website? Perhaps that will just annoy people.

The more I find out, the more questions I have, but this feels like it's going to be a fun journey.

But your site is so unique and original, I would say media is the way to go.

Try and find an advisor and give them 5% of the company. Someone who has connections. Cold call every media outlet you can find.

One mention on mashable will be better than 10,000 crappy backlinks built by software, and I truly believe you can achieve that.

Try contacting PR firms.

Pay for a press release.

But if you have no money, cold call advisors.

Look up 'angle investors' and call them all offering them a slice of the pie.

Well, make sure your Facebook page is a fan page and not a personal one, for starters.

For something like this, a full-blown social media campaign could really take things viral, so make sure you utilize Twitter. When you hand out your flyers and write up your press releases, make sure your Twitter name/handle is on there. Also consider submitting a press release to the free internet PR sites in addition to your local media channels.

In addition to that, create multiple catchy videos and post them on youtube, making sure to keyword optimize them.

There is a pretty cool video by Adeel Chowdhry (14 Point List Building System) that gives a good overview of 14 places to generate buzz about your site. It's actually more geared towards creating a list, but I think it would apply to any new site being marketed.

I must say that I found your business idea incredibly interesting and unique, however, you are in a very narrow niche market. I would start by creating some unique articles telling people what the site is all about and send it out to all of the major article directories with links back to your site. Also, try creating a video that explains in-depth what you are trying to do with your site and post it on YouTube and the other video sites. Videos are an excellent way to generate buzz about your offer.

Try and work on the web design, the landing page should be graphical and attractive, Most internet users trust sites with very good graphic

Use Forums and Guest articles but be very careful cos someone could steal your idea
