Hey everyone,

Do you ever get temporary blocked from google searches? This happens everytime I do cometition research. I get a message that says "It appears automated searches are coming from your IP address, you will be able to search again once these stop" or somthing to that effect.

Is this caused by all the syntax I'm using in my search, or SEOquake?

Probably SEOQuake. Check to see if there is an option to turn off the automation. I haven't used it in awhile, but if I remember right, you can turn that off and then you have to click a link each time you want to know a page's PR, but you won't get blocked.

It only happens when I am using third-party software that sends a request to google that does not have an expected cookie attached to it.

They will let you do it a couple of times, but anything more is considered abuse to their servers, so they block.

I encountered this problem and in the end concluded SEOQuake was causing the problem..
I turned SEOQuake off and problem does not appear to have re-occured

      Using proxies also work.

It happens to me all the time doing normal searches - now that Instant is around. I have a habit of changing the search while the results are still generating and Google seems to chuck a spaz sometimes.

Specific Googledorks are more susceptible to 'spam detection' than just a plain search. site: and unurl: are too main ones.
