Adding a website to wordpress

I have a quick question. I am kind of new to wordpress. I have installed it, created a website (hosted at Hostgator). Now, I am trying to start a second, non-related site. What I haven't figured out is how to add this to wordpress. I am a newbie and I feel like the answer is right in front of me, but I would like to have someone hold my hand for help. Thank you for any suggestions.

Just add another WordPress install using Fantastico.

You can install Wordpress on the new site directly from the Hostgator control panel. Which hosting plan do you have? If you have the "Hatchling" plan for your first site you might want to consider upgrading to "Baby" so that you can host multiple sites in the same account.

      Hello,

I think you may be a little confused. With wordpress you install it on your domain ar the top level or sub level. So you can have it on yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com/blog. You could have both and use 2 installs on one site. I usually have my main site on wordpress then add a blog with another install.

You cant however install wordpress once on one site, then add another site to the same install. This isn't possible and if you could when you made a post where would it post to, the first site or un-related second site?

To install wordpress on your second domain simply replicate what you did one the first. Go to yourdomain.com/cpanel, select the fantastico icon and choose to add a wordpress install.

      I hope this makes sense.

If your Hostgator account allows unlimited domains you can make your new new site an add-on domain (see the Domain section in c-panel).
Once you've created your new domain you look for the "Software/Services" section and click on "Fantastico De Luxe". On the next screen select "WordPress" from the left hand menu. On the next page select "New Installation" and just fill in the blanks.
You will then have a new WorPress installation located on your new add-on domain.

Hi this is my first post..

Just use fantastico on your hosting control panel and select wordpress from the menu available, from that you now can select which domain you want to instal to..

don't forget to save your login information, i just do that because i often forget it especially if you own a lot of website

      regards,

Host gator is the best place and easiest to host wp...like the other person said use fantastico and google it for walk thrgh instructions...As long as your domain name is with host gator (the dns that is) then it will be set up in seconds

Thank you to all that have responded. Wtatlas, you described basically what I was doing, but it seemed like I was going to affect my other site in my cpanel. I must have missed a step. I will go back through the process later today and with the help of you all, I think I may have it figured out. Also, thank you Jeslyn for your offer. I may take you up on it if I don't get it this time.

ps, I can't wait until this 'newbie' thing wears off. I think I just get 'system overload' sometimes.

I think where people get confused with Wordpress is not realizing they have to create another instance of MySQL for the new blog. That is you cannot share the same database with two blogs. Again this is managed by cpanel with most host providers.
